Hi, everyone, I am a new subscriber to this list. I am researching my STONE and DEMARE ancestors who had ties to Nyack, NY. My grandfather, PHILIP NELSON STONE was supposedly born in Nyack in 1886, but I have been unable to scare up any vital records proof for him, either from Albany or the local jurisdiction. Have also checked there (by mail requests) for proof of his parents' marriage (EDWIN B. STONE and MARGARET DEMARE) circa 1885 and similarly turned up nothing. This has been frustrating. The DEMAREs (Margaret's parents, PETER and SOPHIA) were German immigrants who earlier settled in Savannah, GA and then, I was told, moved to Nyack after the Civil War. Of course I can't find them there in any U.S. census indexes! Then when I went to comb through the actual 1910 U.S. census for Nyack, neither I nor the librarians could even find NYACK on the rolls! (We found parts of Rockland Co., but no Nyack.) I am sure someone on the list can tell me exactly on what roll of microfilm the 1910 U.S. census for the city of Nyack is. Then I will go and look through the whole town for any DEMAREs. (By 1910, my STONEs had gone back to Massachusetts.) Thanks in advance for any help.
