I am just starting to research outside of New York City and subscribed to this mailing list because I am a little confused about what options I have for obtaining vital records from New York State. In particular, I am looking for death certificates that might be from Nyack. My relatives are actually buried in NYC, but I was not able to locate their death certificates in any of the boroughs. A family member thinks they might have actually lived and died in Nyack and were buried in NYC because it was a family plot. I checked the on-line FHC catalog and didn't see any vital records for Rockland County, except for a marriage film. Am I doing something wrong? At the NY State Dept. of Health web site, I found: "Certificates for births or deaths can be obtained from either the New York State Department of Health or the Registrar in the locality where the event occurred." Does anyone know what the address of the registrar of Nyack would be and also the cost? Thanks - Mary
