Another of my White "brick walls" is Ella White b. ca. 1851 to Lewis and Mary Palmer White. Lewis and Mary were from Dutchess Co., NY. Ella was reportedly b. in MA, but the family had settled in Ramapo, Rockland Co.NY by 1865. After the 1865 NY state census Ella disappears from the family (the 1870 census for Ramapo is illegible, but by 1875, she is gone). Most likely, she married,but who? Another theory I have is based on the family story that Lewis White had two daughters who "went west" to either California or Iowa, depending on who is telling the story. I have been able to document that Lewis White did indeed have two daughters--Ella and Zada (b. 1856), but Zada stayed in Rockland Co. her entire life. I now believe that Ella may have gone west with her aunt Zada White (Lewis's sister). Yes, the same Zada White from my previous post. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.
