Please, if you are going to the New City Courthouse I need the following. I need a copy or abstract of the will of Bernardus [Barney] Gibbons. Born: 28 Feb 1889. Died: 4 May 1952. Buried: St Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY. Barney, unmarried without children, owned a very large piece of property. I think his property was on the corner of Little Tor Road and _____? Who were his heirs in the will? I was told that the will was contested by other family members. Who won? Please contact me. I appreciate any help. Thank you. Ethel Konight
The Italian Genealogical Group's wonderful site lists a William Simpson, age 53, who died 19 Dec 1936 in Manhattan. No way to determine if he's yours, but a death certificate would tell the tale (the certificate # and an order form are on the website). -----Original Message----- From: nyrockla-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyrockla-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, August 15, 2011 3:20 AM To: NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYROCKLA] DOMINCAN CONVENT OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I have written about the quilt that the Nyack Historical Society recently acquired on my website, and plan to also write about the beautiful quilt currently on display at the Orangetown Museum which was made for the wife of the first minister of the Middletown Baptist Church, Mrs. Griffiths. We researched names for the Nyack quilt using census records and genealogies. Please write me personally if you would like to discuss this. I would be interested in what names are on the quilt. I have ancestors who attended the Wesley Chapel in the 1800's. Thanks. Janice

That's a shame. Why would you not want to digitize valuable historical documents and books? Some of us on the list are not able to come and visit, or not very often. it's a good 16-19 hour drive for me. Not something I can do at the drop of a hat. ;') Digitizing a collection doesn't, or doesn't need to, mean making it available over the Internet for free. But a digitized collection can be more easily transcribed, viewed, stored, copied, preserved against disaster. How hard/expensive would it be to store your entire collection on DVDs off-site? How hard/expensive would it be to microfilm it and store it off-site? There are many, many pluses to digitizing. But, I'm not going to lecture on that. But rest assured, there are people on the list. Even if we mostly lurk. Regards, Brian in sunny, baking KC (nothing but hot, dry, burning, baking sunny) On Tue, July 19, 2011 6:46 am, MARTY wrote: > > Hi Christy. > > Both. My great-grandfather was Martin C. Kearney who was born in Pottsville Pennsylvania in 1948. He was oldest son of Mary and Michael Kearney. The family appears to have moved to Haverstraw, Rockland County, New York; and later to Stony Point, Rockland County. Martin moved to Chicago in the mid 1870s where he married Margaret McKenna. He died in about 1909. None of my relatives knew much about his family aside from the fact that they lived in New York. I also have tried to find Michael Kearney's naturalization papers - but have not been successful. I know that this information may not be helpful - but this is the first time that I have seen any postings for (I think ) the same family! Please pass the word about new OCGS hours which will be effective starting 1 August 2011: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Every Monday: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM (*) First & Third Tuesday: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM First & Third Wednesday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (*) Every Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM (*) First Saturday: Noon - 4 PM * (after meeting & program) (* closed first Saturday in July) Third Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4 PM Closed all Federal holidays or in inclement weather ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (*) The significant part of this change is that OCGS will open at 9 AM instead of at 8:30 AM. On Mondays and Fridays we will close at 12:30 instead of at noon. This will still give 3.5 hours of research time - just starting a half-hour later.
