Sarah Fury married John Doyle and they had 6 children. Michael Fury married Mary ? and they had several children, one was Michael who was a policeman in Nyack. Mother Catherine Fury lived in Nyack in 1865 with her daughter and son-in law (the Doyle's). I would really love to find death certificats for any of these people, can anyone tell me if I can search online for death certificates in Rockland County and how to go about getting a copy of the certificate? My next door neighbor moved to Hendersonville shortly after I came to Charlotte. My other neighbor now lives in Ashville and just last weekend asked me again to visit him and his sister. I don't even remember how I came across your post, but did see Williams and "Bletchley" and decided to look into it. I didn't even know how to get on the site. I'm leaving to NY 6:00 AM tomorrow. We'll get together again when I get back. I started putting some notes together on the Williams family. The house I was thinking about in the South Mountains (Nyack) was owned by Dr. Bernard. As kids many times we would go up there and check it out. It abuts the west end of Oak Hill Cemetery where there's a Williams plot. You're right, it is pretty spooky. On the south end it's on a hill overlooking Route 59 between West Nyack and Central Nyack; the north end faces the New York State Thruway. From Route 59 you can look up and see a cemetery monument. I've looked on cemetery sites for family and can't find any either, even those I know are there. Thanks for your email address. I live in Charlotte, NC. Previously in Orlando Fl. Most of my life I lived in Rockland County - I dearly miss the Hudson River. You mentioned living in Hackensack. One of your Great grandma's (I don't know which one)had a daughter named Gertrude. She married a guy name Ernest Hughes and they lived in Union City and then Little Ferry, NJ. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Let's face it, even though Mr. letchworth might have seemed compassionate in the day for pooling the "feeble minded" into one safe haven, it was always under a guise, always agenda. Grand standing science and the exploitation of experimental pigs they used to further the race for cure, was always what it was about. Almost the Cold War of medicine. Just ask Hilary. It's pretty interesting how all these streets and relatives ended up living so close together. I've never been to Nyack, the closest I've ever lived to there is Hackensack NJ. I still have a Grandmother who lives in Guttenburg NJ, so I'm hoping that when I go to visit her, I might get a chance to visit Nyack too. I've been wanting to visit the Rural Cemetery (across from Oak Hill Cemetery)to see if my Great Grandparents (John Betchley and Clara) are buried there. I've seen pics of the place, it looks a bit scary though, with overturned headstones, fallen trees, and very unkept conditions. All I know is they are supposed to be buried by the "interstate" on top of a hill. I've seen an old directory for Oak Hill, but their names weren't in there. I've heard of others who have tried to find out where they were, but with no success. Anyway, I'll try to send you what I can by email before you leave, so you can have that with you if you need it. I have her being born 1849 and married George D. Williams 1868. He was still alive in 1910 according to the census. As for Carneelson, I'm not sure if that's the Cornelison connection. Seems possible though. Gedney Street runs south only to Main Street in Nyack. 103 Piermont is also interesting - Salisbury Manor was located on Piermont Avenue which runs from Nyack to Piermont. Do you now or have you ever lived in Nyack? I was born on Burd Street, Nyack. It is coincidental that my Mom's brother and family lived at a Gedney Street address. Can't think of a castle in Nyack unless it was the huge home up in the South Mountain area. The name of the owner though wasn't Betchley. I'm going up to NY Good Friday for a while so if I get a chance I'll try to take some of my "stuff". I'm also trying to trace my maternal grandmother - Katy Elizabet! h Kucera. She lived in Rockland Lake before the state took over the land for the park. Thanks for all the info you're providing. Between us we may get a heads-up. I'll organize my info on the Williams side and send it on to you. If I can, I'd like to send it as an attachment to an email. Take care. As previously mentioned, they had other siblings, Eva, Grace, Albert, etc. From what you said, your grandfather, John Henry Betchley was her second husband. Then she had other children, including George Betchley, my mom's cousin. I remember the name Jennie, from family conversations and I did meet Harriet. Yes, George Betchley married Anna (I never knew her maiden name, but she was Italian) and they lived in Yonkers. They had a son and daughter (Clara). I found your message from ncanfield57 most interesting. There was always talk in the family that we were related to the Cornelisons who owned Salisbury Manor in South Nyack. The Manor was demolished when the TZ bridge was built. It had been built in the 1600s by a British officer, Captain Sylvester Salisbury. I never knew the connection but afte reading about a marriage between DDr. Abraham Cornelison and Sarah Williams (2nd wife), I now see the possible relat! ionship. I had researched the Westervelt, Salisbury, Cornelison web-site and came up with Abraham and Eliza (1st wife) and Sarah and then Anna a 3rd wife. They really went through their women in those days, didn't they. Anyway, George D. Williams (born July 1845), your great great grandfather, is listed in the 1900 census and even in the Morman church registry. In various census his occupations are listed as stationary engineer and boatman. A census lists the the family address at 185 Main Street, Nyack. There was also a family story that one of the Williams ancestors sailed to the US, jumped ship and changed his name from Antoinette to Williams. I don't know if this was George but I can find nothing about his parents, except they were born in New York. So, we may belong to a non-legal immigrant family!!!! There's also a Williams family story that we have some Native American blood in our line. Aunt Grace, Clara's and John Henry's sister sure did look like she had! some Indian blood running through her veins. Checking out NYS tribes , we think they may have been Blackfoot. Oh well, I find this to be fascinating. I haven't signed up with Ancestors.com. If you want to contact me directly, I'm Janetkucera@aol.com. This is getting better and better.
