    3. Thank you! New City was on my short list. In fact it was on top of my list. Not sure I could hit two locations in one day. I was in fact torn between a Bergen centric approach and a Rockland centric approach. Thanks for throwing me back to square one. lol. Does New City have records covering Bergen also? These collections have actual first and second hand records, besides compilations, right? I have well nigh exhausted my research efforts at the DutchDoorGenealogy site and others on the Internet. Although that last one is a moving target. I recently got email addresses for over 50 other researchers on one section of the family tree (thank you, Disbyt). Sadly, not one of the ones most in need. I will probably spend years with just that one result. I'm not really sure what's out in print form to help me, but I suspect it's greater than the digital form. Thank you, Brian On Thu, May 31, 2012 11:35 am, Pat & Walter Wardell wrote: > Two places I'd recommend are: > > The Ridgewood Library, Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ. I'll be in NY for several days. I have a number of easy to hard tasks on my wish list for NY. What types of realistic goals are possible in Rockland/Bergen county in a day's worth of research? Some of the things I'd like to find: I'd really love to find the details, including parents of Anne Secor *(1785-1795), oo Edward (Adrian) Waldron (the younger) [10 Feb 1803, West Hempstead], +(1820-1825), likely in Haverstraw (but who knows with the Waldron Clan). Other things: 1. Calvin Waldron oo Mary Youmans, ~1836, ?; 2. Thomas Waldron baptism/birth 9 Feb 1856; 3. Mary Youmans death >1898?, probably around Mt. Arlington, NJ. 4. Graves for the above three (Thomas in 1898 and Calvin in 1896 both in Mt. Arlington). 5. Hannah Allison death >1825, (wife of RW Patriot Adrian Waldron). Haverstraw? 6. Jonathon Youmans death (1763-), RW Patriot (yes he enlisted as a teen and served, probably as a gopher, what not). Haverstraw? Son of Jonathon Youmans and Maria Smith. 7. Jonathon's wife's info, Elizabeth DeGraw (18 May 1756 - ?), dau of Johannes DeGrauw and Rachel van Hoorn. 8. Information on George Babcock (1766 - ) son of Thomas Babcock and brother of RW Patriot Isaac Babcock (source: Isaac's RW papers). 9. Anything on George's wife, Elisabeth Jones. 10. and lots, lots more. I expect a good deal of this information to be centered around Haverstraw, but as you know, nothing is that easy with these old Dutch families. I know there are a few wills I'll be looking up, a few cemetery trips (perhaps early in the morning, before normal working hours, or late evening, or even another day). So any tips for best locations to do research are greatly appreciated. I know of a few locations with a lot of resources, but as I've never used any of them, I'd like your opinions on the best places to start to attempt to achieve the most. 3. Two places I'd recommend are: The Ridgewood Library, Ridgewood, Bergen Co., NJ. In addition to the Library's own collection on local history and genealogy, The Genealogical Society of Bergen Co. collection is housed here (including my own compilation on CD on "Early Bergen County Families" which spills over to include Rockland County, Passaic Co., and further afield in some cases). The New City Library, New City, Rockland County, NY which has a "Rockland Room" with a great collection of material on Rockland County local history and genealogy. Both these locations have excellent librarians who will be happy to help you and can also suggest other avenues for your research. I hope you are able to get most of your questions answered. The Leonard connection is very interesting. I have not been able to find the family on an 1850 census either. The following people are listed on the 1860 census: Michael Kearney 35 Mary Kearney 30 Martin Kearney 12 Margaret Kearney 10 Elizabeth Kearney 8 Mary Kearney 6 John Kearney 5 Michael Kearney 1 All of the children were born in New York except for Martin. So Michael and Mary were definitely in New York in 1850 when Mary was born. I had talked to St. Peter's Church a few months ago about doing a search - but time got away and I never wrote to them. The information on Martin Kearney in the Chicago Tribune is great. The house that they lived in on Archer Avenue is still standing. There was a block of building that were titled "McKenna Block" that were initially owned by Martin's father-in-law Barney McKenna. Most of the buildings they owned were torn down to build an expressway in the 1960's. Barney McKenna (Margaret Kearney's father) came from County Monaghan, Ireland to work on the Illinois-Michigan Canal. I always thought that it was Barney McKenna who was the politician. There is some story about a member of the family losing an election because "a goat ate the votes". Thanks - I will send you any information that I find. I have attached Martin's death certificate. Maybe you already have the information. I am trying to find the death record for Martin's mother - Mary A. Kearney/Carney. She was living with her son, Michael Kearney in New York in 1897-1899. I cannot locate her after 1899. I will go sometimes in June to San Francisco/Sutro Library. They have all the city directories on film. Will see if I can locate where she lived, with whom, and how long. I will also write to the St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw. They have a number of records. Michael Kearney (father) was naturalized by 1875, based on the New York State census -1875. I appreciate all the information that you have shared so far. Here is a web site for Rockland County. http://www.localarchives.org/newcitylibrary/SearchPage.aspx?searchtext=Kearney&folderid=895 You can find great information there as well, and also in the National Archives-Newspapers. There are a number of Chicago papers listed. I don't know where Michael Carney/Kearney married. Maybe he married Mary A. Leonad on the ship coming over. Maybe Mary A. Leonard was married before and Martin is her son and not the son of Michael. It states in the obituary that Michael Kearney came to Tomins Cove directly? Thanks again. Kearney, widow of Michael Kearney/Carney. I found an obituary of Michael Kearney that reads as follows: Obituary: Mr. Michael Kearney died at his late residence on Sunday evening at the ripe of age of eighty years. Mr. Kearney was born in Kilkenny County, Ireland and came to this country about fifty years ago, landing at Tomkins Cove which has since been his home. October 15, 1896, Rockland County Messenger, Haverstraw, New York. I can't find Mary Kearney in Rockland county in the US Census 1900 records. I believe she is living somewhere in New York with one of her children. Any help would be appreciated and any information on the Kearney family as well. Thank you in advance. I found it this afternoon. Here is what it said: Obituary: Mr. Michael Kearney died at his late residence on Sunday evening at the ripe of age of eighty years. October 15, 1896, Rockland County Messenger, Haverstraw, New York I will continue to look for information on the Michael Kearney family. Looks like he went to New York and not Pennsylvania.
