This caused me to do a great deal of reading on the web about Letchworth. I was very touched by the stories of all of the people connected to the place, especially those who were patients, family of patients and those who worked there. I came across your story about your uncle Larry, and was touched by your interest and compassion for someone (I suspect) you never met. As I enjoy photography, and the buildings are very interesting, I spent the morning there today, ending with a trip to the cemetery. I got pictures of the monument, including close ups of your uncle's name. I also made a rubbing with pencil and paper. I can just email you the pictures, put if you want the pencil rubbing. Is this your address? Patricia A Hogge 5424 Pineridge Ct NE Bremerton, WA 98311-2570 If so, I'll send you some pictures and the rubbing, sincerely, John. PS - the email address I used to register with ancestry is one I really don't use. So to contact me, just respond to this post on this website. I will check back periodically. Catherine married (or was living as married) to a Thomas Wilson Babcock. My grandfather, Thomas Jr., was born to them but was also shipped around to different family members and, as I understand it, never lived with his mother or father for any length of time. Catherine didn't stay long with Thomas Sr. and lived with or was married to another man in the 40s before she finally settled down and married Henry Ulrich and they lived up in Kingston. Thomas Jr got married to my grandma, Marjorie Lutkins, and you have 6 counsins in Michigan that have had several children and some of those kids have had kids. My mother is the oldest of the six and remembers the most about Grandma Kay and she remembers your Jo Obilander. This was Catherine's sister, so my mother's Aunt Jo, well great aunt. They used to drive over to Kinsgton during the summer time to visit with Grandma Kay and Grandpa Henry during the 50s and 60s. I would love to talk wit! h you or I would be happy to pass your information on to my mother or grandmother. Sadly my grandfather, Thomas Jr., passed away in 2006. Katherine Adelia King (she was known as Grandma Kay to my mom) was also married to a Thomas Wilson Babcock and had my grandfather, Thomas Jr., they separated and she was with another man (not sure if they were married) before she finally married Henry Ulrich in the late 40s/early50s and stayed married to him until she passed away. They were living up in Kingston. Aunt Jo married at least 3 men, from what my mother remembers. Patricia was her oldest daughter and is about 15 years older than my mother, so that puts her at about being born closer to 1940. She got married and moved out to California. Jo had another daughter named Debbie who was born about 1956-ish. Unfornately my mother couldn't remember Debbie's married name, but Patricia's should be Daughtry. Ella and Irving's next daughter, Maude, married a man with the last name Mims, and my last count for her chil! dren was at 2. One of Ella and Irving's daughter was shot and killed by a boyfriend, my Grandmother thinks her name was Arleen, but she could be wrong, that happened before she married my grandfather in the early 50s. Irving passed away before the 1920's census and Ella was then running a boarding house in Newburgh, at least up through the 1940's census, where she shows up with one of her younger sisters living with her, Adelia and her daughter Maude with her two children. 1. [NYROCKLA] fwd: question about Adda Jane Patterson
    2. Donna Heller Zinn
    3. Hello Fellow Listers: The below forwarded request was received by The Perry Historians - a genealogical library located in Perry County, Pennsylvania. I was able to find a brief death notice in the Perry County Democrat dated 15-Aug-1945 for Adda Jane Patterson. Since the lists do not allow attachments, I will transcribe the death notice as found: Perry County Democrat - 15-Aug-1945 The sad news of the death of Miss Adda Jane Patterson, 31, of Royalton, was received here Sunday by her uncle, Amose Dum. She was Lt. (jg.) in the Navy and was transferred from New York City to Seattle, Wash. and was killed in a train wreck at Michigan, North Dakota, Thursday. Surviving her are her parents, William and Mary Dum Patterson, a sister Betty, Mrs. John Rhinesmith, Royalton, and a brother, William Patterson of the Medical Corps, France. She was a graduate of Bucknell University and received her Master Degree at Columbia University and was a teacher in the Middletown High School before joining the Waves almost three years ago. The family, formerly from Landisburg have the sincere sympathy of all in their sad bereavement. Funeral arrangements not known yet. Burial will be in the Landisburg Cemetery. I'm hoping that the word will get to Adda's relatives through this notice on this list, as we found on Ancestry.com a family tree that states her nephew (her sister's son), John Greaves Rhinesmith was born in Rockland County, New York and died in Rensselaer County, New York... and this is why I am posting to this list. Author: davelifethoughts Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.rockland/3624/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Reseraching ancestry of our g-gf Fredrick Baker. Fred(Fredrick, Frederick) was born in NY ~1862. By 1870 he was living with Samuel and Mary Reeve in Preble County Ohio.. Input from Lukas Weinstein, NY Child Aid Society, provided June 2012 " Date of entry: July 17 , 1866 Age : 4 œ April 6 ,1866 from Munsey, RI [perhaps RR] Frederick goes west with Mr. Thigpain and living with Capt. J.H. James (Temporary placement). Oct 31, 1866 Mr. James writes, somebody said that the boy's mother is with his family and desires the boy be returned and that she may go after the boy and perhaps make a place for herself in the west. This is the only mention of this in our records. June 12, 1869. John H. James writes that they took him(Fredrick) with the intention of finding him a permanent home. Mr. James is a lawyer lives in town and has nothing to keep him(Fredrick) busy. Does not feel he can keep him longer. April 21, 1870 Capt. John James says that Frederick is with a good family in Preber leo, Ohio.(hard to read Preberleo, could be Preble) " Seems possible that the reference to Munsey is actually a railroad station. The Monsey railroad station, which received its name from Munsee, a Lenape chief, was built when the New York & Erie Railroad passed through the glen in 1841. Monsey is a a hamlet in the town of Ramapo, Rockland County NY, just northwest of NYC. Rootsweb postings for Rockland County NY indicate there was a St. Dominic's Orphan Asylum that county from 1866, and also one in Pamona, and many more(http://rocklandgenealogy.org/childrenshomes.htm). Those postings also reference a Orphan Train Historical Society. Hope to find parents of Fredrick Baker Any help appreciated. I've been doing some searching on the Internet, to find any & all articles about "Letchworth Village" & about the "Old Letchworth Village Cemetery". Found several articles that were written about the placement of the monument, but the last thing I found was written around 2008. Nothing since then. I sure would like to get a photographic close-up of my Uncle Lawrence "Larry" Langstrand's name that is etched into that monument. Please keep me updated in what you are able to find out. I am limited in what I'm able to do, since I live so far away from where I need to do research. I'm so grateful that today, we have the Internet & genealogical websites such as Ancestry.com.
