July 3, 1998 Jill Johnson email: JJJ1JCS@aol.com Looking for information about Mathias NASH (original name NEUSCH) and his family. Wife Elizabeth GROH and children Joseph, Lawrence, Elishet (?), Mary Anna, Louis, Frank, Andrew, Rosa and Helena (went by name Ellie). Mathias, Elizabeth and Joseph came to America around 1846 from Niedersteinbach in Alsace, France. They were living in New York City in 1850 in the 16th Ward, 3rd District. At least 1 child was baptised in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in 1857. The family later moved to Rockland County. They were living in Piermont in 1867 and were in Pearl River (Orangetown) by 1871. Joseph married a woman from Pearl River named Elizabeth "Lizzie" Fisher. The NASH family was living in Pearl River prior to the movement of the entire family to St. Paul, Minnesota (between 1876 and 1881). Lawrence, Elishet and Mary Anna died before reaching adulthood - nothing is known about when or where they died. Andrew was the only adult who did not go to Minnesota. Andrew was alive in the 1880 census and living with his parents. His subsequent whereabouts and what happened to him is as yet unknown. It is also probable that Frank Nash was working with one of the railroad lines - any information about this is desired. I am also looking for a woman named Catherine H who used to have the AOL address of CHolli2236 - she was looking for this family but her address changed & I cannot find out how to reach her.
In April a woman named Catherine H posted a query about NEUSCH/NASH on this list and in the Rockland County Genweb board. The family she was querying about is my GG-grandfather Mathias Neusch and his son Joseph. Catherine left an AOL address of CHolli2236 -- this is not a known AOL address. She did not leave a complete name. Does anyone know who she is or how I can get in touch with her? Thank you so much for your help. Jill Johnson
Being a subscriber to the Rockland, NY list I also do not care to see any porn related posts. I also realize there is not much that can be done about people of this type. I'm sure the person running this list does all that is possible to keep this from happening.

I'm really happy to see a Rockland Co. list. My paternal grandparents Thomas Bautz and Theresa Walsh were residents of Pearl River, NY from about 1910 until 1957. My grandmother died after being hit by a train about 1937. I believe that she had a sister named Alice who married James Higgins. My grandfather died New Years Eve 1957 after being crushed while repairing a compacting garbage truck. I believe he had brothers named Charles and Joseph. They had four children Robert, Alyse (Farlett), Maureen (Mrs. George Graff) and Thomas (all born in Pearl River.) They were Catholic. I do not know anything beyond my grandfathers year of birth. I am looking for any information regarding either of my grandparents. Thank you. Tom Bautz Lake Mary, Florida

There are two QUACKENBUSH Genealogies in the New City Library. See our GSRC WebPage at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~NYROCKLA/GSRC/> for the complete citations. Here is what I found: The closest match is Cornelius J. QUACKENBUSH, b. 13 Jul 1817; d. 20 Jul 1861; m. Mary WILDES. They may have had one child, Americus, b. 1849; d. 1885. He was the son of John C. Jason, According to A Geographic Dictionary of New Jersey, Oak Ridge is a village in West Milford Twp, Passaic Co, NJ. It is on the Pequannock River and on the NY, Susquehanna and Western RR. There is also an Oak Ridge in NY - From French's Gazeteer of New York, it is a Hamlet in the Town of Charlestown, Montgomery Co, NY. Seeking proof of birth/baptismal and parents for Mary Martha Ver Valen bn. N.Y. State, probably Rockland Count. Zabrislie Genealogy incorrectly states she was Mary Martha Bogert, bn. Jan 15. 1849, who md. George W. Van Valen 10 Jan. 1872. Family Bible states she was Mary Martha Ver Valen bn. Jan 15, 1850, as does her tombstone and death certificate. H. Durie's copy of the Tappan Church Records states she was md. 10/Jan 1872 at the home of Mrs. J. Bogert of Tappan. I have her original mar. cert. from the Tappan church stating her mar. date and that she was Mary Martha Ver Valen. Her death cert. is the only file I can locate with parent names given as Abram Ver Valen and Eliza Miner (Minor). Mary's husband George W. Van Valen was her cousin, bn. Dec. 9, 1851 at Harrington Twp., Alpine/Closter/Demarest, N.J. He was the son of David Van Valen and Sarah Jane Bogert . Mary and George W. lived in Harrington Twp and were my Great Grandparents. I still live in Closter, N.J. Mary M. Ver Valen transferred her membership from the Piermont Ref. Dutch Church to the Closter Ref. Dutch Church Feb. 25, 1873. The naming pattern of their children suggest they were somehow related to Abraham Ver Valen and wife (1) Elsey Earle or (2) Elizabeth Theresa Vanderbilt Felter. Children of Mary Martha Ver Valen and George Washington Van Valen: Elizabeth Theresa, bn Jan 10, 1874, d. Oct. 1, 1877 Earl, bn. Dec. 1, 1876, md. Elsie EstellaOlder, Tappan RDC Jan 19, 1901 George Washington, bn. Apr. 8, 1879, md. Henrietta A. C. Gruben (my grandparents) Jerome (twin), bn. Apr. 13, 1882, d. June 20, 1998 Karen Karlsson kr.karlsson@mcione.com I am searching for the birthplace, parent and siblings of my g-g-grandfather, George Louis White. He was b. in 1856 and d. in 1938. He married Grace A. Murch and settled in Dutchess Co. NY. His children were: Claude, Carrie, Mary Zada, May and Ernest. According to oral family history George had a brother Russell, two sisters--Zada and Amelia who migrated to California and another sister (possibly Rachel) who lived in Haverstraw, NY. I'm hoping that he may have originated in the Haverstraw area. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear from you.
Hello all, I descend from Caterina (also spelled Catherina) Ecker/Ekker/Eckersen who married (1) Niclaes (Nicholas) Abramse De Vouw and (2) Abraham Blauvelt. Someone said that Caterina was the daughter of Jan Ecker (from Van Midwout) and Magdaleentje Vonk/Vonck who was born in Zuythampton (Southampton), Suffolk, New York. And that Caterina had two sisters Chrestina and Magdalentje. Jan was supposedly the son of Steven Ecker and Magdaleentje the daughter of Cornelius Vonk and Magdalena Van Dyck or Hendricks. Does anyone else have the source for this information? Caterina was born in Phillipsburg (Tarrytown??), Westchester County, NY in about 1694. Is there a baptism record for her? Jan Ecker/Eckersen was often a witness of baptism for Caterina's children from her marriage to Abraham Blauvelt. But there were several Jan Ecker/Eckersen's living in that area in that time period. Caterina had Abraham, Daniel and Nickolas from the first marriage and she had Sara, Abraham and Rachel from the second marriage. Were there more children? Thank you. Sincerely, Jason Coffman
Hello, Dorothy - thank you very much for the information. I went to the library and decided to check something out about Anna Frans, Cornelis Adriaensz Smith's wife. And on LDS film #1,016,876 (Dutch Reformed Church records at Tappan and Clarkstown, NY) it gives a little history on the Smith and the Minnelay families. It says "Cornelis Adrianszen Smith m. Anna Frans (?Bloodgood?) of New Albany, was 'in front of the bed, because of the groom's sickness." Anna married 2nd time to Daniel Vooren married in Hackensack April 22, 1686. There was also another Cornelis Aertzsen Smith married to Jannetje Francois and it is uncertain if they are the same person." It gives the source for Jannetje "NYDC v.2 p. 125 Nov. 4, 1676 and NYDC v.2 p. 144 Dec. 15, 1680" Cornelius Corneliszen Smith and Sytje/Seytje Minnelay did not have a daughter named Anna but they had two daughters Jannetje. What do you think? Thank you, Jason Coffman
