    3. November 30, 1998 Jayne Loader loader@earthlink.net For a book on the 1929 Women’s Air Derby (August 18 - 26, 1929) I am researching the life of the aviatrix Opal Logan Giberson Kunz, the wife of Dr. George F. Kunz, the gemologist. Mrs. Kunz lived in Tarrytown from 1908, when she was adopted at the age of twelve by Edward F. and Margaret Giberson. She was married to Dr. Kunz at Christ Episocal Church in Tarrytown on May 15, 1923. Thereafter, she lived in New York City. She came to prominence in 1928, when she became a pilot. At the time of the Women's Air Derby, Mrs. Kunz was involved in a negotiation to end her marriage, which resulted in an annulment of that marriage on November 21, 1929, by Supreme Court Justice Arthur S. Tompkins in Nyack. I am writing to ask if anyone can help me locate photographs, a clip file, or any other information pertaining to Mrs. Kunz and her birth, adoption, marriage, annulment or participation in the Women's Air Derby. Any suggestions for further research would be most appreciated. I am particularly interested in locating copies of documents pertaining to the annulment, if they survive, in finding out an accurate date of birth for Mrs. Kunz and in learning who her parents were and where she lived before she was adopted by the Gibersons. Thanks so much for your help. Sincerely, Jayne Loader 292-Rear Whiting Street Hingham, MA 02043 e-mail: loader@earthlink.net

Witness were NICHOLAS STAGG and Catharina Spier. Kindt was often spelled Kint and Kent. Jason

    3. You probably should read the three-part article "The Foshay Family of Philipse Manor" by Glenna See Hill, NY Genealogical and Biographical Record, Apr-Jul-Oct 1987, vol.118 no.2-3-4. I don't think that article covers any of your specific people, and it doesn't go much beyond people born in the 1790s. My Forshee line looks like: Pierre FOSHAY b.1683 France m. 3. Hi, Ed, My husband has some Forshee's/Forshay's in his line. Although there is no Abram that I know of, at least at this point, we do have the following: Catherine Forshee (29 Oct 1789-30 Mar 1835) m. Claes Van Houten (1787-1864). Maria Forshee who m. Reynier Quackenbush (1759-1814). My husband's grand uncle is Frank Forshay (27 Oct 1882-6 Feb 1966) m. (1) Edna Mackey (1888- ), (2) Carol ??. Frank and Edna had three children: Rodman, William and Vera. I haven't followed any of the Forshee/Forshay lines. I notice your surname is Smith. Would you have any Smith ancestors in Rockland County? My husband has two lines. Sincerely, Joan Brooks Stony Point, NY Ed Smith wrote: > I AM SEARCHING FOR MY 4TH GREAT GRANDPARENTS ABRAM I. 3. I must apologize to those who have tried to access the Genealogical Society of Rockland County Webpages, based on my last posting. The site address is very case specific, and must be entered exactly as set up. I changed part of the case, and it won't work that way. The correct address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/GSRC/ Enter the address EXACTLY as above, or if your E-Mail and browser allow, double-click on the address above and it should work. The save the address into your favorites list. Sorry for any inconvenience and frustration. Thanks to Fran King for pointing out the problem. Bob Protzmann

    3. My gggrandfather Gilbert Chard (b. ca. 1815) was a ship's carpenter and the family seemed to move often: 1835- Married Mary Stubbs, Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y. 1840 Census- Mamaroneck, Westchester 1850 Census- Clarkstown, Rockland 1860 Census- Greenwich, CT The only possible clue I have, so far, to his parentage, is the 1860 Census where he lived in Clarkstown. On the same Census page is George W. Snedeker, his wife Elizabeth (Chard), and 68 year old Hannah Chard. >From Gertrude A Barber's Graveyard Inscriptions of Rockland County I have: Mt Repose Cemetary, Haverstraw George W. Snedeker Sept 18, 1812 Apr. 4, 1873 Elizabeth Chard, wife, March 3, 1813 May 2, 1901 Hannah Chard, Apr 30 1782 Feb 23, 1861 John Chard d. Jun 13, 1850 age 53y 6m 29d Catherine Snedeker, wife, d. Jan 11, 1884 80y 4m 22d Elizabeth is the right age to be Gilbert's sister and Hannah to be his mother. John and Catherine would seem to be too young. George W. Snedeker was also listed as a ship's carpenter. Possibly they worked together at Snedeker's Landing. Does anyone have more information on these families or perhaps suggest a place to start looking? Are there town vital records in Rockland for that time period or only Church records? I did some unorganized poking around in the Clarkstown Reformed Church Records and came up empty. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, -- Bob Starkins mailto:rstarkins@earthlink.net
