    1. *** New automated surname query system for Rockland Co. NYGenWeb ***
    2. Bruce Hamilton
    3. Due to the time required to manually index the Rockland genealogical queries, I am converting to the GenConnect automated query system. It has the advantage of being tied into the world-wide GenConnect system, where you can query the whole world for a suname at one time. Unfortunately, due to the way GenConnect is administered, it is not possible to simply direct all new Rockland GenConnect queries to this NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com mailing list. IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE EMAIL FOR EACH QUERY AS IT IS POSTED, PLEASE GO TO http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland#Subscribe AND SUBSCRIBE TO THAT SEPARATE NOTIFICATION LIST. NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com will continue to exist for non-surname queries, general announcements, and discussions of genealogical and historical interest. The surname index in the new system will not be available until mid-January. Thank you for your patience. Over the next few days I will finish posting all the old queries into the new system. Until that is completed and the new surname index is working, the old queries will still be available from http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rcquery.htm#BMINDEX , and non-surname queries will continue to be archived there. Please observe the formatting guidelines described in http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rcquery.htm to help improve readability through consistent format. I can edit queries after they are submitted, but you can save me work by following the format shown in the over 300 queries already listed at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland Thanks for your support. I welcome your suggestions. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/ County Coordinator, Rockland, NYGenWeb / USGenWeb Webmaster, Genealogical Society of Rockland County

    3. Donna, What a wealth of information. Thank you! I think that I will add it to our WebPage update (if you have no objections), since there must have been Rockland/NJ border families who went to church there when there were few options. Bob I think that the Moffat Road Cemetery listings are available, in book form, in the New City Library.

    3. Hello Donna, I am in the process of updating the information that we have posted to our Webpages on the churches of Rockland County. I have almost 60 pages of information, but your post is the first time I have come across the Ramapo Lutheran Church. What can you tell me about this church that I can add to our new pages? I am especially looking for location, dates and history. Could this church have been over the border in NJ? Bob Protzmann GSRC Sorry, I have nothing to add on your BUSH/BOS line.

The only Henry Craft that died in 1904 was on Oct. 10th and he was a resident of Nyack, NY, He was 58 yrs. 7 months, 25 days. Two other people: Leah Craft, married, who died on 1/20/1920 of Closter, NJ and Amy Craft, single, who died on 10/13/1953 of Park Ridge, NJ, are buried in the same plot with Henry. There is no mention of a Dorothy Rehling or Elizabeth Glassing. If there is something else I can check, let me know. Ruth Fee GRFee@aol.com

    1. CHARD/SNEDEKER Families 1850 Clarkstown
    2. Protzman, RL (Robert)
    3. Bob, In "The Book of SNEDEKERS" by Walter C. Snedeker, is listed the marriage of John CHARD to Catherine (b. Aug 19, 1803) SNEDEKER. She was the sister of George Washington SNEDEKER who m. Elizabeth CHARD. They were the children of Michael SNEDEKER (son of Theunis) and Eliza Felter (Elizabeth) and Mary Palmer (for George W.) Later, a John Peter SNEDEKER (# 7720) m. Nov 5, 1845, Ann Eliza CHARD. They lived in Rockland Co. And George Washington SNEDEKER (# 8810) m. ca. 1859, Emma C. CHARD. They also lived in Rockland Co. The SNEDEKERs of Rockland County lived on land that was originally part of the Pond Patent, bought by a father and given to his four sons. The land was in the Town of Haverstraw (now the Town of Clarkstown) and mostly in the present village of Congers, and probably some in Rockland Lake (now Rockland Lake State Park) and Valley Cottage. SNEDEKERs Landing is at the edge of their property, on the Hudson River. They were primarily farmers, and the landing was probably used primarily for the shipment of produce to NYC. When one of the SNEDEKER brothers was caught trading with the British during the American Revolution, his portion of the property was confiscated and sold to Col. Jacobus SWARTWOUT, of Dutchess Co, who settled his son there. SWARTWOUT Lake is named for them. I am not very familiar witht the local records, but there are certainly property records in the County Clerk's Office. A new record center and archives was recently opened in Pomona, but the land recods remain in the Clerk's Office in New City, on New Hempstead Road. I hope this will help.

Dusenbery 1801 in a list of Supervisors on pg.413 of "The History of Rockland County", by Frank Bertangue Green, M.D. This book gives a very good over-all view of Rockland County during the 1700 and 1800's. It is an interesting read. Yonex@juno.com ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 3. Coert and Salome VanZandt Lake are my 3Xggrandparents. I can trace Salome's family back quite a ways, but the last verified clue I have for Coert is that he was from the King's County (Gravesend/ Brooklyn) area. I am looking into the VanVoorhees line for Coert's maternal ancestry and think his paternal line seems to be connected to John Lake of Gravesend. He named his sons Daniel, Richard, Issac, and his grandsons were John H., Daniel, and Cortland .These names seem to carry on in each generation. If anyone has more information, I would appreciate Help. Thank You Fran (Lake) King
