I'm having difficulty finding the ancestors of my great grandmother, Amanda Rose Lane, of Haverstraw. I believe she descended from one of the Jacob Roses and I believe the family was Dutch. Nancy Tweedie's research (thank you Nancy) lists the male children of James R. Rose (Jacobus Roos) and Elizabeth Cline as James (Jeams) b September 7, 1792 in Clarkstown (married Anna Terneur March 31, 1821); and Jacob b September ll, 1795 in Clarkstown (married Catherine Smith). Does anyone have information on the children of JAMES and ANNA ROSE or JACOBand CATHERINE ROSE? Based on the birth and marriage dates, it's possible that Amanda Rose was born into one of these families. I know it's a longshot, but I am getting desperate. Thanks. Ann Langdon
Hello Everyone We have added 22 new 1600's ancestors and included their children on the Ancestor Roll of Honor on America's First Families web site at; http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/ When you enter the site, scroll down to near the bottom of the page where the Ancestor Roll of Honor is located. On the same page you will also find a link to the 1600's Ancestor Data Base that contains over 14,000 names of proven ancestors from that era. Enjoy Harold Oliver Director

Pat, thank you so much for the information on Levi Bell. Although he is not a direct descendant of mine, I like to know something of the lateral ancestors. All the knowledge I have on him I put in the last note to you. Bertie Hoch

Help, I have many deeds and wills from early Orange, Rockland, and Ulster counties that pertain to my ancestoral families: Carpenter, Coe, Wisner, Shaw, Thompson, Jayne, and Woohull which I would like to correlate in order to try to draw some conclusions regarding their relationships. Does anyone know of a spreadsheet that can do that? Phoebe
Please note: Rockland surname queries (i.e. queries about specific individuals and families) should be posted to the Rockland GenConnect board. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rcquery.htm for details. The advantage of the GenConnect system is that it allows you to search the entire world of GenConnect (not just Rockland Co.) with a single query. If you are replying to a previous GenConnect query, then click on that query and fill in the "Post a new response" form. On the other hand, if you are posting a brand new GenConnect query, then (after reading the aforementioned guidelines) go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland and click on "Post a new message". Note that, to receive automatic email of Rockland GenConnect postings, you must subscribe to a SEPARATE email list. To subscribe, go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland , click on "Subscribe to notification list", and fill in that form. Any OTHER (non-surname) discussion of Rockland genealogy or history (e.g. questions about place names, buildings, roads, etc.) is appropriate for this NYROCKLA-L list. Please do NOT send postings to NYROCKLA-L unless they concern Rockland Co. NY genealogy. Not virus warnings, not ads, not pleas for assistance for victims of war, disease, famine... you get the picture. Any of the above constitute chain letters, and repeated violations will cause you to be unsubscribed. Last week's "Melissa" virus gives you an idea of the havoc that can be caused by chain letters. Thanks for your help. We've come a long way in just a couple of years! If you aren't seeing enough traffic on NYROCKLA-L to suit you, try NJBERGEN-L. Just email to NJBERGEN-L-request@rootsweb.com and put subscribe in the BODY of the message. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) owner-NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/
hi, I know this has nothing to do with any of my list but I thought that so many people read the list that this would be a good place to get this information out to all. Lets give these families all of our support and prayers that thier loved ones will soon be home safe. This just came in and I'm forwarding in case you don't already have this: Southwestern Bell and Pacific Bell Internet services have created free e-mail addresses for families of the three American soldiers now held in Yugoslavia. I have had only one response from this series so am deducting that there is very little interest out there in these families. I also have data regarding the early deeds and mortgage of Or. Co. Carpenters and Wisners which I had thought I might put on the list, but will do that only if I have enough response to make me believe that there is any interest out there to make it worth my effort. 1920 records from Nyack, NY, list Alexander J. Randolph and his wife Rebecca. In 1920 they were living on Main Street in Nyack. They had three daughters at the time: Bessie Randolph who married David Lewis, Mildred Randolph who married a Purrington, and Norma Randolph who married a Lassiter. Does anyone on this list know the first names of Mildred's and Norma's husbands? I believe that this somehow ties in with my Lassiters. I have asked this on both the Randolph and Lassiter mailing lists and haven't received any response. Thanks in advance. Judy Lassiter
The 1850 census for Rockland County shows my family, Isaac & Rachel Barnes but also has several people living with them and I wonder who these people might be. The people were: Philip Montonya age 35 with children John 14, Ellen 12, Isaac 9, Elizabeth. Also Patrick Couner 18 and Martin Hatchet 28. Also, any information on BELDING BARNES b. abt. 1816-20 would be appreciated. He is a son of the above Barnes couple and stayed in Haverstraw. May have been involved with the Haverstraw Savings Bank in 1871. He was still living in 1890. Thanks, Margaret
