I manage both this mailing list NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com and the GenConnect query board for Rockland Co. at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland There are over 100 members of this NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com list, but only 21 members of the query notification list for the Rockland GenConnect board. If you do not receive several messages with "Subject: New Rockland Co. NY Queries Forum Post" each week, then you are not a member of the GenConnect email list. To subscribe to that list, go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland and click on "subscribe to notification list" just below the main title. Note that if you simply browse the above Web page periodically and are not on the email list, you are likely to miss recent responses to older queries. I wanted to have a single list, but the GenConnect system is separately administered, so we don't have that option. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/

The closest in Cole (1884, reprinted 1992) is a Joshua Martin as a parent in a Tappan baptism, p.41 #3233, Daniel [Martin], Jan. 4 1795, Aug.2, Joshua Martin, Margaret Storm. There is no Wai* or Wyb* in the every-name index to Cole. Are you asking about two different books? In "The Kakiat Patent," Howard I. Durie refers to "The Irregular Dutch Reforemd Churches of Tappan and Kakiat, Rockland County, New York" by Howard I. durie and George Olin Zabriskie (to be published). Does anyone know if this book was published? If so, where can I obtain a copy? Carol Kaufman Researching: CLARK and CHRISTIE of Bergen & Rockland Counties
I'm looking for any information on the CLARK family. Specifically, I would like any information on: Ezra L. CLARK (b. ~1800) married to Rachel (ECKERSON?). The Kakiat Patent states Rachel's last name as ECKERSON. The Saddle River Lutheran Church records show two of their children baptised: Ezra CLARK (b. 1 Aug 1820-d. 23 Feb 1850), married Jane PETERSON (they were supposed to be cousins) Edward CLARK (b. 19 May 1822-d. ?), married (did he marry Catherine ACKERMAN?) Did Ezra CLARK (child) die in Rockland County? How? Was Rachel's maiden name ECKERSON? Were there any other children? Who were they? If Ezra CLARK and Jane PETERSON were cousins, what relationship made them counsins? The 1830 Fed Census shows Ezra CLARK living in Clarkston, Rockland County, NY. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Carol Kaufman Researching: CLARK and CHRISTIE

I just discoved that the Journal News has a website at http://www.nyjournalnews.com/news/rock.sht It's pretty limited, although it appears that you can look over news summaries for the past month by going to 1rock.sht, 2rock.sht, ... 31rock.sht I have added this to the links page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rclinks.htm I sent them email suggesting that they add obituaries, but I'm not holding my breath. Speaking of which, it sure would be nice if some generous soul would volunteer to index the Rockland edition of the Journal News for the Obituary Daily Times. (It appears that the Westchester edition is already being indexed.) Dated Mar 29, 1709. Witness G. Vielle, Davide Mandeville, Jacob Sowman proved 1722/23 Remember John Everet and Samuel Clowes were agents that sold so much of Wawayanda pat. to LI folks. Also Edward Blagg early on owned property in this area, i.e. B187 1723 Johannes Hey Haverstraw to Edward Blagg, Esq NYC 200 acres Haverstraw, b S Florus Crom, dec'd, N run of water called Dutch hit, E Huydson River; Wit Albert Mineli, Louis Van Ditmartsea. Blagg's Clove sold to John I. Carpenter (we sometimes see that J or L), Mr. Woodhull, Sylvanus White, Hugh Gilston, Hezekiah Howell. James Jaynes. This deed was too dark on the film for me to read. I believe there was also a Sayer involved in the early settlement of this area. Does anyone know what this was all about. I have tried to piece this information together, as my research indicates that the Jaynes and Woodhulls were related to the Orange Co. Wisners. Phoebe My interest and question is if anyone knows who the parents of the above John Carpenter, who married Jane or Jean Howell, dau of Hezekiah Howell were.
I'm still trying to locate any Lassiters in Nyack. I'm specifically looking for a Virginia or Betty Lassiter who was residing in Nyack in 1942. On the unclaimed property website there's a J. Lassiter listed as residing at 41 Waldron Avenue, Central Nyack, NY. I have done a reverse search on the address and have a name and phone number. Is there anyone on the list living in Nyack who would be willing to make one phone call just to ask the new property owner if they know/knew this J. Lassiter? Will exchange lookups/research/phone calls in southeast Alabama. Judy Lassiter

I am trying to find information on Ruth SMITH second marriage to a HICKSON some time after 1865. Ruth first husband died in 1864 in Philadelphia, PA. She sold the property in Philadelphia and move back to Wappingers Falls and marriage a HICKSON. They either own or manager a Hotel/Boarding House in 1890 in Wappingers Falls. Ruth" daughter was living with them. When Ruth died in 1903, it is told that her husband HICKSON and her daughter, Elizabeth Ecroyd ( born 1856) went to Leon County. I though that it was Leon County, Florida, but I cannot find any record of them in FIorida. I looked for marriage and death records without any luck. Could someone help me out on this? I would like for someone to check the city directory of Wappingers Falls for 1890-1903 and can someone tell me if there are more LEON County other that Florida. Dowie O.
