    1. [NYROCKLA] CARPENTER/COE/SMITH, COLE,BUCK, HATCH, BOYD,MURDOCK,BUELL
    2. Boson Transcript Genealogy column Mar 3, 1932 had the following query: (3193) 1. BUCK Israel Buck of Amenta, NY, Rev War, Dutchess Co Militia: Irrael Buck, Jr. 2. WILLIAMS Wm Williams of NYC. B 1747 d. Poughkeepsie 1817? W Catherine ___Ch: John, lawyer of NYC d 1806 and Catherine m Zephaniah Pells. 3. COLE, SMITH, CARPENTER. "Who were the parents of RUTH COE who married JOHN CARPENTER of Jamaica, N.Y>? She was born about 1685 and died in 1759. They moved to Goshen, N.Y>, where RUTH (COE) CARPENTER married, second, a Mr. Thurston. Who were the parents of Hannah Smith, who married (as his second wife) MOSES CARPENTER of Goshen N.Y.? She died in 1829. Their children were Elizabeth Wilson, Joanna Reed, Susannah Redmond and Abigail Munro. 4. HATCH Mary__ wife of William Hatch of Scituate, MA, bap. Scituate April 29, 1660 5. BOYD, MURDOCK. Who were the parents of Annie boyde d Norwich VT 1791, she m Robert Murdock of Simsbury, Conn. 6. BUELL, SPENCER, GRISWOLD…Wm Buell of dorchester, MA and Windsor, Conn m Mary Thomas. Wm Spencer of Cambridge, MA and Hartford Conn, Agnes Heane or Agnes Pratt. Then signed E. C. W. R. I am trying to find out who might have written this query. Based on my research on all materials that I have seen I have observations/comments: 1. I believe this is the first time I have seen a date of death for RUTH COE. 2. It seems to me that this must have been written by a descendant of Moses Carpenter's second wife, HANNAH SMITH because: The obvious: this person was looking for HER ancestors and also because we know that the named ELIZABETH Carpenter married a WISNER, not a WILSON, (thus showing a lack of re. the first wife's line of descent.) 3. Cole is the only other name that I recognized! I know that a descendant of Moses and his first wife, Elizabeth Runyon had a grandaughter Laura MELVIN who married a Cole, but do not know if this could be the same Cole family mentioned above. 4. The Munro spelling is correct, Reed has been recorded as Reid also, and Redmond is reported as Redman and Redmon. I sure would appreciate any help with this. Who wrote this query????? Please it on if you have access to others or other lists that might be able to help. Thank you, Phoebe

If you mean ship passenger arrival lists, they are on National Archives microfilm, available at any National Archives branch or on interlibrary loan through any Family History Center. However, for New York those lists are only indexed from 1820-1846 and 1897-1943. If you mean Rockland Co. naturalization papers, the Family History Library catalog entry is http://www.familysearch.org/fhlc/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails& subject=341909&subject_disp=New_York,_Rockland_-_Naturalization_and_citizens hip&columns=*,180,0 For convenience I have added a "Family History Library Catalog" link to http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rclinks.htm which will take you directly to the top-level Rockland Co. section of the catalog. Also, I am working with RootsWeb and Peter Scheibner, Rockland Co. Archivist, to put up a database of approx. 25,000 Declarations of Intention for search on the Internet. That would give you a date, record identifier, and (in most cases) country of origin. You would still need to go to either the LDS film or the County Archivist for a copy of the actual record. I expect that it will be several weeks or months before that database is available, since some overworked RootsWeb staffers are working on it. I will announce it to this list when it is online. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/

    3. Looking for anyone who may have access to the History of Orange County, Ruttenber and Clark. On Page 16 it lists ownners of plots followed by a fold out map of the patent. My ancestor Conrad Waible/wible (spelling varied) purchased a farm from a Joshua Martin in 1786. The land was believed to have been originally in Orange County but ended up in Rockland County when the latter was formed. Any one who can help will be greatly appreciated. Dave Wyble Sr.

    1. [NYROCKLA] NY Vital Statistics Agencies
    2. This is addressed to the listers who live in New York. In recent days there has been a litany of complaints on the Westchester list about the costs and poor service provided by the State Archives in Albany. Over the past several months there have been similar complaints on the other NY lists to which I belong about the Albany, New York City and Brooklyn agencies. What those of us who do not live in New York do not understand is why do you who live there put up with this poor treatment from employees and agencies of your state and local government. You certainly pay some of the highest taxes in the country. Genealogists and family historians make up a large and rapidly growing contituency in every state. Some states (Colorado for instance) have developed expedited premium service that has been a new revenue stream for the state. In January a new session of the legislature will be meeting in Albany. If the several dozen genealogy societies in the state would start a letter writing campaign, pressure would be applied to the bureaucrats who run these agencies. Rootsweb listers from all over the US could provide you with very specific examples of the truly poor service that the these agencies provide. It's time that you are heard by those who can change the situation not just the sympathetic genealogy buffs on Rootsweb. Walt Jones Spokane WA

(According to the Kakiat Patent, Rachel's last name is Eckerson.) Specifically, is David a brother of Ezra and Edward? Did Rachel and Ezra L. have other children? Who were they? Did they live in Bergen or Rockland County? Who were Ezra L.'s parents? Any help is immensely appreciated. Carol Kaufman Researching: CLARK/CHRISTIE in Bergen and Rockland Counties

    3. Chris, There is a MANN family in the region of Palisades, Rockland Co, NY. stemming from the a German, David MANN and his son, George MANN. Their line is detailed over several generations in a Mann Family Genealogy in the Palisades Library, of which I have a copy. David MANN also had sons Mathias (b. 1741), David (b. 1744), Michael (b. 1745) and Conrad (b. 1750). They are not carried forward. David MANN d.in Seitzen, Germany, and his son George was born there in 1735, and d. 1806 (presumeably in NY). George had sons, David (b. 1768) (10 children b. 1789 - 1807) and George (b. 1771) (6 children b. 1798 - 1822). Could your lines be descended from one of the brothers of the elder George?
