Dear Folks, I abstracted deeds from that I had ordered thru the LDS FHC several years ago. Please excuse my fumbling reading and recording. At the time I abstracted them I was woefully ignornant of the old names and the films were generally very dark and difficult to read, for that reason, I am sure there are many spelling errors. None-the-less they may be of interest to some folks. 413 Feb 2, 1791 Children of Helena Scott, late of NY m John R. Peter R. Researching the referenced families, who resided in Nyack. Smiths were part of the Tappan Patent family; Williamsons were 17th century immigrants and became 18th century residents of Rockland County; Gedneys came from the original MA 17th century settlers; Harts came in the latter part of the 18th century. My blank walls are as follows: Robert Hart (1760-1848) - married to Phebe Johnson - need parents and siblings Joseph Johnson (1740-1795) - married to Neeltje Van der Voort - need parents and siblings Ann Eliza Ackerman (1821-1879) - married to Robert Gedney - need parents and siblings Elizabeth Brady (c 1750- married to Peter Felter - need parents and siblings
Greetings, I have many questions related to my Carlough ancestors that many of you may be able to help with; however, let me throw out the first two. My ancestor John G. Carlough was born about 1813 in Haverstraw, NY and married Mary Babcock about 1830. Mary was born about 1813 in Ramapo. Their first son Samuel was born on November 16, 1833 in Sloatsburg, NY (he is my ancestor). My first question is for any Babcock or Carlough researchers. Have you come across the names of Mary Babcock's parents? My second question is who were John George Carlough's parents? His NJ death certificate lists George as the father. However, I am not sure if it is the George Carlough that married Elizabeth Lozier or another one. Another of my White "brick walls" is Ella White b. ca. 1851 to Lewis and Mary Palmer White. Lewis and Mary were from Dutchess Co., NY. Ella was reportedly b. in MA, but the family had settled in Ramapo, Rockland Co.NY by 1865. After the 1865 NY state census Ella disappears from the family (the 1870 census for Ramapo is illegible, but by 1875, she is gone). Most likely, she married, but who? Another theory I have is based on the family story that Lewis White had two daughters who "went west" to either California or Iowa, depending on who is telling the story. I have been able to document that Lewis White did indeed have two daughters--Ella and Zada (b. 1856), but Zada stayed in Rockland Co. her entire life. I now believe that Ella may have gone west with her aunt Zada White (Lewis's sister). Yes, the same Zada White from my previous post. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know. I have a Mary Schwartz in Spring Valley and New City but she died about 1898 to 1903 in a train accident. I have not pursued this yet and I do not have the death card with me. I am away for 2 months. Could be that some of the family shortened their names or there is not any connection at all. Schwartz is connected with the Gross family of New City and Spring Valley area. How I do not remember but I believe she may be the mother of Lizetta Gross who lived with the Grosses in the late 1800's. tensone1

I was looking through my g. g. grandfather's will, and noticed that they were buried at "apparently" a family cemetery east of Preston on Buena Vista Road. I've looked up the street on Mapquest - just to see if it was still there. Is there anyone on the list who knows more about it. The stone mentioned in the will is that of Anna Smith, wife of John Smith.

Researching Ruth Alice SMITH b. Aug. 8, 1928 in Nyack, NY. m. John Patrick Connolly. Ruth Alice moved to California with children John William, Linda Ann, and Donald Edward sometime around the early 60's. She passed away in Santa Rosa, CA Dec. 26, 1985 from Cancer. I am requesting any help I can get in finding out who her parents were and other info available. The only other known info I have on her is that she had a sister named Martha and another one named Vivian. Martha married a Steve Wanko? (not sure of the spelling Wanko). I would be willing to do research in exchange in the Sacramento, California area. State Archives are downtown from where I live. John North Highlands, CA
The most wanted in my ancestry line is a Coonrad Wyble and family. Coonrad (Corrupted spelling of the surname includes WAIBL/WIBLE/ETC) was born in Bergen County, NJ. His parents worked at the Long Pond Iron Works in Ringwood, NJ. In 1783 Coonrad married a Julianna May in Ringwood, NJ. They had 2 documented off spring Susanna Waibl and Charles Waibl both born in Ringwood 1783 and 1785. In 1786 Coonrad is located in New Cornwall Town, Orange County, NY., where he applied for a grant/farm patent. (Subsequent research found no patent was issued). It is believed that a son John May Wyble was born to Coonrad and Julianna May Wyble in 1787. John's research revealed he was born in New York and that his past occupation was a collier indicated he also worked possibly in a Iron Works site. Coonrad and family were found in Orange County in the 1790 Census and 1800 Census in New Cornwall Town/Cheesecock Patent area. After 1800 Conrad, Julianna and John vanish. (Just a reminder Rockland County was split from Orange County in 1798.) John is eventually located in Mifflin County Pa., in 1822 until his death. My problems are that Conrad and Julianna cannot be located after 1800. Does any one have any suggestions or avenues I can continue to pursue? The second is John parentage. I would like to find sometype of documentation that John was the son of Coonrad and Julianna May Wyble even though preponderance of the evidence is overwhelming that John is the son of both. Does anyone have any other additional suggestions on pursuing John's parentage? Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. Dave Wyble Sr.

I just learned about the "Cemetery Records Online" website. There is a page for Rockland Co. at http://www.interment.net/us/ny/rockland.htm where anyone can submit interment records. Maude Conklin has already submitted quite a few. Hopefully within a few years we will have comprehensive online records for many of the cemeteries, but in the meantime, this is a start. Also don't forget Bob Protzmann's directory at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/GSRC/rccem.htm . That page is a detailed enumeration of all known Rockland Co. burial grounds including grave counts, contact information, and a bibliography. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/
I am looking for Arents, Orange County ca 1720s, and also a place called "Hittekezees", whereabouts completely unknown, but also in about the same time frame. An Orange County historian suggests that "Hitttekezees" may be near "Tapanzee", which I have never heard of either, but I'm hoping that Tappan in what is now Rockland may be a good starting point to use for this inquiry. The Hittekezees location turns up in a Tarrytown, Westchester marriage record from 1709, and I am looking for Arents, Orange County because it is given as the birthplace of Mc Gregory Van Every. Any help, or even any GUESSES would be very much appreciated by this new lister. Thanks very much, Sharilyn Whitaker
Where could I find information about the New York Militia during the War of 1812? Specifically, I'm interested in tracking down an Abraham A.
