Rockland County Archivist Peter J. Scheibner has made available an index to his naturalization records. The index is comprised of 38 files, ordered alphabetically by last name, which is now stored as part of the USGenWeb archives at ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ny/rockland/court/naturalizations . The papers include Declarations of Intention and other naturalization-related papers originally filed with the County Clerk from 1812 to 1991. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rcnaturalizations.htm for details on what is in the index files and how to order copies of naturalization documents that you identify in the index files. The folks at RootsWeb still plan to eventually make a search engine available, so that you would not have to download the index files. However, they cannot commit to a date when such a search engine might be available. Note: the Family History Library also filmed these records; FHC film#s 1031321, 1031322, 1031323, and 1029977. However, Pete Scheibner considers his more recent filming to be of better quality. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/

There are some Bouchards in the Chazy NY area who descend from the French Canadians who fought for the US in 2nd Canadian Reg. "Congresses Own" in the Revolution. My wife's Bouchards are part of that family. Perhaps your Bouschards are from that family. I've had good luck contacting many of the researchers of French Canadian lines via email. Those with access to the Drouin or other marriage indices can do quick lookups if you know the approximate date of marriage. Would anyone have any information about Charles Bouchard of Haverstraw? I see he was naturalized in 1892. I wonder if he was old enough to be the father of Mary Louise Bouchard , who was born in Quebec in 1863 and married Leonide Aubin and lived in Rockland county. Any assistance greatly appreciated. I am just starting to research outside of New York City and subscribed to this mailing list because I am a little confused about what options I have for obtaining vital records from New York State. In particular, I am looking for death certificates that might be from Nyack. My relatives are actually buried in NYC, but I was not able to locate their death certificates in any of the boroughs. A family member thinks they might have actually lived and died in Nyack and were buried in NYC because it was a family plot. I checked the on-line FHC catalog and didn't see any vital records for Rockland County, except for a marriage film. Am I doing something wrong? At the NY State Dept. of Health web site, I found: "Certificates for births or deaths can be obtained from either the New York State Department of Health or the Registrar in the locality where the event occurred." Does anyone know what the address of the registrar of Nyack would be and also the cost? Thanks - Mary
I am looking for information regarding John Jersey, b. 12-28-1740, married to Annetje Blauvelt, b. 2-26-1745. Does anyone know if he served in the Rev. War?
My name is Wallace Edward Dennison 3rd, I have lived in Rockland county all my life and continue to do so. I am currently doing a genealogy search. I believe I am a descendant of the Ramapough leni-lenape indians. I grew up with one parent, my mother. Having the Dennison surname has brought me much criticism frome a very early age. It has also brought me to be inquisitive and to laren more about my Dennison surname and my family before me. If anyone can help me with my search please contact wallacedennison@aol.com or wallace dennison pmb 2000, 20 indian rock center Montebello,ny 10901. Hello Richard, The Ten EYCKs are not my direct line, but I have collected data on them to try to sort out those who married into my family. My information is not complete. Here is what I have on the first 3 American generations. I have a 40 page file containing additional descendants, in Word for Windows 95 (6.0) format, which I am willing to share. Unfortunately, I have not connected these lines to Rockland County. Your line may be one that went to NYC and then went either to NJ or Westchester Co. Richard, yes many Jacob ten Eycks in Albany. I happen to have the Haverstraw 1790 census on my desk and found it interesting that the Ten Eyck name was listed as Ten Nycke...Jacob, John, Henry, Henry Jr.. I thought I'd pass along this spelling. Marj, I assume that your SCHOFIELD family is the same as SCOFIELD, a family which settled early in MA, went to CT and spread out, west and south from there. First stop, try this incredible database. The URL is: http://rmeservy.byu.edu/pafhtml/Scofield/index.html Your DENIGHT may be derived from DENIKE, a Rockland Co family. It, in turn, was derived from Ten EYCK, also found in Rockland, but originating I the early Dutch Colonial period in Albany, and later spreading south from there. It is also found as ten Eyk and ten Ek. Some branches of the Ten Eyck and SCHOFIELD families were probably Loyalists who went to Canada after the American Revolution. Many Loyalist families returned to the US in later generations, seeking better economic opportunities. My ancestor Sarah SCHOFIELD SEELY, was descended from SEELY Loyalists, and perhaps SCHOFIELDs, who were not Loyalists (at least in this line), but SCHOFIELD cousins definitely were. My ancestor's line was in St John, New Brunswick from 1783 until bout 1851. Bob Protzmann
Hello. This is my first post on this site and I have not done Rockland County research before. I am searching for Daniel BRUNDAGE born, 1769, of Saddle River, Rockland Co. NY., but in Ramapo in the1810- 1840 censuses. This family is both in New Jersey and New York and is quite a challenge.Daniel married Mary, last name unknown in Tappan.Their daughter Margaret BRUNDAGE(b 26 May 1795) married Issac T. TAYLOR 22 Feb 1812. Issac was the son of Jonathan TAYLOR and Anna Halstead, born 8 April 1790 in Tappan or Piermont NJ. Siblings of Daniel Brundage: Margaret (married William MILLER), Mary (married Joseph GREGORY) and William. In the 1820 census William BRUNDAGE in in Hampstead. In the 1840 census a James BRUNDAGE is in Clarkstown. Sometimes the name is spelled Brundridge or Brundige Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions? Are there good Ramapo records? Any help would be wonderful! Beverly
