    1. [NYROCKLA] Cornelius Smith Jr. and Susanna Mabie
    2. Fellow Researchers, I have just about completed my search for records for the decendents of Caspar Mabie, and one of the few remaining puzzles has to do with Susanna Mabie who married Cornelius Cornelius Smith (AKA Cornelius Smith Jr.) before 1775. I have found the following baptism records for children of this couple. 9/17/1775 Child: Maria, parents: Cor. Cor. Smith and Susanna Mebie witnesses: Cornelius Cor. Smith and Maria Peck, DOB: 9/14 The Irregular Church of Tappan, NY 1/23/1780 Child: Johannes, parents: Corneles Smit and wife witnesses: Johannes Mebi & wife The Reformed Church of Schraalenburgh, NJ 11/21/1784 Child: Cornelis, parents: Cornelis Smit jr. and Susannah Mabie witnesses: Cornelis Smit & wife Maria, DOB: 10/24 The Reformed Church of Tappan 2/13/1791 Child: Susannah, parents: Cornelis Smith Jr. and Susannah Mabie, DOB: 1/18 No witnesses listed. The Reformed Church of Tappan 3/25/1798 Child: Vrouwtje, parents: Cornelus Smith Jr. and Susanna Mabie, DOB: 2/28 No witnesses listed The Reformed Church of Tappan Then, there is the Will of Cornelius Smith, Jr., late of Rockland County, NY, dated 6/15/1811, probated 8/17/1811, in which are mentioned wife Susanna, sons John and Cornelius, and daughters Susannah, wife of Sale Merceles, and Marie, wife of Teunis Smith. Finally, there is their tombstone in Orangeburg Cemetery: Cornelius Smith Jr. died 7/31/1811 age 57 years, 6 months and 15 days, and Susanna Mabie, his wife, died 5/19/1848 at age 96 years, 6 months and 10 days. Therefore, it would seem that Susanna was born in 1751. The problem is that the only Susanna Mabie that I have been able to find a baptism record for prior to 1760 is: 2/1/1739 Child: Susanna, parents: Johannes Maby and Susanna Bertyne witnesses: Edwart Eckesen & wife Maria, DOB: 1/16 The Reformed Church of Tappan Clearly, this can not be the same Susannah. Yet, the one instance in which a "Mabie" was a witness at their baptism provides some indication that she may, in fact, have been a daughter of John Mabie and Susanna Bertine. Furthermore, Susanna and Cornelius were witnesses at the following baptism, for a child of John and Susanna's son Frederick: 12/9/1787 Child: Susannah, parents: Frederick Mabee and Hannah Bonte witnesses: Cornelius Smith & Susanna Smith New York Reformed Dutch Church Can anyone provide any information that might help me determine who Susanna's parents were? Thanks, Steve Mabie

    3. I thought I would ask before I mailed away for a birth cerificate. My ancestor Angeline Aubin was born in Haverstraw in 1883.I have heard it is better to write to the town clerk. How long does this take ? What information is on a NY birth certificate ? Most of my research has been in NJ. where you learn the address , mother's maiden name , parents ages and occupation and how many other children (on a good one) . Figure I'd ask before spending $11. 1. [NYROCKLA] Abram Conklin
    2. Jane R. Elliott
    3. I have established through family records and pictures that a Abram J. Conklin was my Grandmother's half brother. He resided at 221 W. 83rd Street, NYC at least from 1901 - 1909. I have a telegram addressed to him there when my grandmother and grandfather were on their honeymoon. If I can find out who his parents were, I could ascertain if his mother was Anna Hamilton Conklin, the fourth wife of Josiah Webb Dolson and my grandmother's mother. I have been down the path of Nicholas M. Conklin and Eliza Starr with sons Manning and Samuel, and the dates don't jive. I've also been down the road of Abram Conklin and Josephine, buried at St. John's in the Wilderness at Stony Point, and those dates don't quite jive. I've been through the wedding present records and guest list, and A.J. and his wife Clara were there. Where, how else can I track him down ? I have had lots of speculative help and leads from several Conklin researchers, and I am most grateful. Now I'd like some suggestions on Abram J. ! Thanks in advance, Jane Dolson Rauscher Elliott Newport, NH native of NJ

    1. [NYROCKLA] Dr. James E. Clark and James S. LeRoy
    2. Fred & Connie Taylor
    3. Would anyone have any knowledge of a Dr. James E. Clark, who purchased a burial plot in Oak Hill Cemetary Nov 30, 1849, married Elizabeth Oliver around 1853 or 54, had one son, Josaphat Oliver Hardingham Clark in 1855. Although there are 18 burials in the plot, he is not one of them. I surmise that he remarried and is buried with a 2d wife somewhere else. Family lore says that Dr. Clark was descended from one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence....perhaps Abraham Clark? Secondly, would anyone know of the name James S. LeRoy, d. Apr 4, 1929, in Nyack? He is one of the burials in the Clark plot. Thanks, Fred
