I know there are Tippetts (and variations) buried in Hunterdon and Morris counties. As I stated my father always told me that we had the Lenni Indians in his family line and I am now wondering if he was not talking about the 'Ramapo Indians' I have read a little on what people call the Mountain People or Jacksons Whites and the more I have read and the more people are telling me I really feel this is where her family origionated from. In a very old picture I have of whom I believe is Jane and her husband John Lambert the woman is dressed 'Indian like' that is the only way I can think to word it. How many Janes were listed in this book, do you know? I know in the census records it states that she and her family were born in NJ. However I can find no Call family that would fit her in the NJ 1830 to 1870 Census records. I have started to go through the census records page by page hoping that there was a spelling mistake and the search is just not catching it. The cemetery that Jane is buried in has no more Church there and I have been told that no one knows where the old records went. She is the only Call buried there and there is only one other Call grave site that I know of in a Cemetery not to far from the town she is buried in but they are much newer graves. Any ideas? Thanks Dawn

    1. Andrew Wilson Hall (1855-1931?)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YUB.2ACI/2044 Message Board Post: I am trying to research Andrew Wilson Hall his spouses and family. He was originally from Scotland, born 1855. He immigrated in the early 1880's and took his oath about 1886 in Rockland. Census records show the following places of residence. 1892 (state) District of Haverstraw (with his 2nd. wife and 2 children presumably from his first marriage)) 1900 (federal),15 Alice Street, Haverstraw Village (5 children) 1910 (federal),Town Road, Stonypoint Town (same 5 children) 1920 family in Manhattan. He does not show with them. 1930 family in Manhattan. He does not show with them. He appears to have died in 1931 in County of Manhattan. The name of his first wife is unknown and his second wife is thought to be Lydia Bronson (born in New York abt. 1855/1856 died abt 1942). We have no marriage dates as yet. Between his 2 families he had 8 children, 3 dying as children. The ones known about are Jean (or Jane), John, Eva, Amelia and Frances. There is a Hall family burial plot somewhere along the Hudson but I am not familiar with the area so could use some help locating it. I'm assuming it would be near Haverstraw County? According to their web site Rockland County only holds marriage records from 1908-1935. Where would I look for earlier ones e.g. 1880's thru 1890's? I'm planning on sending off for his death and naturalization records to see what information they contain but in the meantime do any of you know what avenues I can research? Thanks. Carol

I'm a graduate of RCC (also of Ramapo Senior High....right up the road....) and when I was a college student there, I worked in that building in the Continuing Education Office. The building also held the cafeteria and student lounge. This was LONG before the student union building was built in the '70s. I haven't been back for more than 20 years, so I don't know if any of these buildings still exist. Linda

    3. Don't know about Rockland co. but thought you might find this interesting. In 1860 the County Home in Hackensack - {listed as the poor house on one inmates death certificate} had 26 inmates of all ages, both blacks and whites, also in the home, including many children, of whom 19 were paupers, 3 were insane, 2 were idiotic, and 2 were foolish. 1860 U. S. census, Bergen County, New Jersey, population schedule, New Barbadoes Township, Hackensack post office, p. 460 (penned) page no. 72, dwelling 579, family 614, line 15, Stephen Westervelt, County Poor House, (John C. 2. The Poor House was mosatl often referred to as the Alms House. It was originally a wooden structure, but was replaced by a brick structure. The brick structure remains and is used as the Administration Building for Rockland Community College. The activities of the Alms House were moved to the Rockland County Health Complex, in Pomona and are under the Department of Social Services.
