Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YUB.2ACI/1230.1270.1.1 Message Board Post: Minnie Rose Tenenyck is listed in the Surrogate Records, Taxable Transfers, Rockland Co., Vol. 1, Mar. 20, 1892 to Mar. 14, 1903, p35. She is the daughter of Alfred Rose who died 12/11/1893 in Stony Point, NY. The date of letters 2/16/1894. He died Testate. His Executor was Matilda Rose, his widow. There was no value shown, and no tax. The list of heirs and other parties included Matilda Rose Stony Point Widow Frederick Rose Stony Point Son James Rose Stony Point Son Carrie Barton Stony Point Dau. Minnie Tenenyck Stony Point Dau. Frederick Brooks Stony Point Grandson William Brooks Stony Point Grandson Alexander Brooks Stony Point Grandson James Brooks Stony Point Grandson Edward Brooks Stony Point Grandson John Tenenyck Stony Point Grandson When I reviewed these records in 1993 it would appear according to Surrogate Court Staff -- and layers of dust - that I was the first person to look at them in a generation or more. Going Back up the line Alfred Rose was born 23 May 1827 in Rockland County and christened in Oct. 1827. He is buried in the Mt. Rest Cemetary at the former Stony Point ME Church (another sect uses it today-but the cemetery is still there and kept trimmed). The 1855 NYS census lists no occupation in 1855, in 1865 farmer, and the US census in 1870 lists him as Teamster. In the 1865 NYS census he reports 4 children two wives. Matilda was living with him at the time and she reports that she had 2 children 2 husbands. All five children appeared. In the household in 1865 were Alfred 37, Matilda 31, Catherine 16, James 10, Carrie 7, Mary 7/12, Catherine Brooks 13 Stepchild. Stepping back to 1860 US census he and his first wife Rachel Jones live in Henry and Mary Rose's house with 3 children. Rachel Jones (b 10 May 1825, d 15 Aug 1862) is buried iin the Mt Rest Cemetery at Stony Point ME Church. In the 1855 NYS census she was listed as 27. She was the sister of Catherine Jones who married Alfred's Brother Henry H. Rose. Barry Brooks (descendant of Alfred and Rachel) and his wife Joan live in Stony Point - Send me private email and I will provide contact information. Returning to Matilda Baisley Rose (b 26 Jan 1831 d 4 Jan 1910) Going back a generation on Albert's side his father was Henry Rose (b 22 Aug 1776 d 9 Dec 1843). Henry and Albert's mother Mary (Polly) Dykens (b 1784 d 26 Mar 1870) m. 17 Feb 1801 are buried in a small cemetery on Wayne Avnue, Stony Point. Henry is the second of seven sons of Jacob Rose (possibly Jacobus Roosa) and Ann/Emie/Emma. This Jacob (we call him Jacob I because there are many others) appears to have been born in about 1745 and his wife about the same time. Mary Dykens is the daughter of Richard Dykens (1762-1839) and Merce (aka) Amassy Ten Eyck (b. 1784). I will separately search our records for the others.

    2. I too descend from Jacobus(James) Rose. I believe James died about 1783 wife was Lea Crispell?? His son James Rose b Jan 13, 1778 Uster Co NY died Sept 6 1861 Pickaway Co. OH. James (2) was 5 when his father died. He married Sarah Van Wagner after Sarah died in 1823 he had two other wives( Fanny Thrall & Lucy Wiggins). I have an old family passbook paper that tells about the the Family This pass Book was a Brown notebook containing " Family Records for Frank G. Rose, Written by his Mother, Charlotte Manly Rose. The first entry in my paper copy of the notebook dated Williamsport, Oh Sept 29, 1889. Charlotte interviewed all the oldest relatives of the families so all of the information may not be correct. "James Rose came from Germany some time previous to the Revolutionary War and settled in Dutchess County New York. He served as a soldier in that war and for carrying and safely delivering a message over a dangerous road was awarded by the Government a title to a large tract of land in New York on part of which the city of Kinderhook now stands. He died about the year 1783 or 1784 and his children quite small no claim to the land was established. His wife or widow married a Mr. Terwilliger. They had several sons from which the Terwilligers in this - Pickaway County are descended. To his son James & wife Sarah Van Wagoner these children were born: Levi born May 27, 1800 *James b May 14 1802 m Rebecca Coe of New York Sarah b August 8 1804 Jonathan V. b August 2, 1807 Peter D.D. b May 7 1810 Abraham D. b December 18 1812 David D. b August 20 1815 David b July 24, 1818 Elizabeth b July 30 1822. James & wife Sarah left NY and came to Pickaway Co, OH in Deer Creek Township known as the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood in about 1818. I have a little more on this line of the family if anyone is interested. We used to have in Ohio a Rector-Wiggins-Terwilliger-Rose Reunion at Mt Pleasant Church near Circleville OH. There was a newsletter that was published for many years and I only have a few copies. It had many old pictures and information about all these family branches. Connie Maguire
