    3. List members on the Rensselaer County Mailing List are invited to take a look at the website of the Troy Irish Genealogy Society - TIGS. There are several name searchable data bases relating to Rensselaer County on this site as well as some interesting photographs and stories dealing with Troy that may be of interest to Rensselaer County researchers.. It should be noted that all of the transcription projects worked on by TIGS cover the general population and are not limited to Irish surnames. Site address is: Troy Irish Genealogy Society website http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ As a Rensselaer County researcher you may be interested in a major new transcription project dealing with Rensselaer County records. The Troy Irish Genealogy Society is now working on automating the Rensselaer County Marriage Index. This 10 Volume Marriage Index of Rensselaer County marriages from 1908 to 1935 has over 60,000 names. Currently we have about 23 volunteers from all across the county and Canada working on this marriage index project. Work is now being done on Volume I which has 5,000 marriages which translates into 10,000 names. The original pages are scanned by TIGS members and the resulting pdf files are then sent to the volunteers working on the project as an attachment to an email along with an Excel spreadsheet for data entry. The first scanning of the source documents covered Brides and Grooms records with the letters A., B. and C. The data for these records is now 99.9% finished and proof read. This part of the index had 1,848 names which is almost 20% of the total file of 10,000 names. A second scanning session was held October 28, 2005 and all the Brides and Grooms records for the letters D. through K. were finished. We now have quite a few files that can be sent to the current volunteers plus any new helpers. If you would like to take part in this exciting new project, why not consider joining the TIGS mailing list and volunteer to help with the transcription of these valuable and historical records. The TIGS website has a easy enrollment function to get on the mailing list. If you want to volunteer as a transcriber, please write me off list at: [email protected] and send me your name, address and telephone number. I will then email you the Excel spreadsheet and a pdf file of names to be data entered. Regards, Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY
