>>1855 NYS Census for Sodus << One thing about genealogy--you learn something new everyday. This is the first I have heard of the 1855 New York census--where can I locate it? Online? I have the book "New York State Censuses & Substitutes" on order (Merry Christmas to me) Kathie In Montana Cascade County Volunteer for: Random Acts Of Genealogical Kindness http://www.raogk.org/ Rootsweb Obituary Lookup http://freepages.genealogy rootswebcom/~obitl/ovlist.html Cascade County, Montana 2005 Obit Lookups: 157
I don't know about on-line. My copy is headed as 1855 Census, Vol I, Ulster County, NY. (Ulster County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 536, Hurley, NY 12443.) It states that it's on microfilm... and provided on disc by Haviland-Heidgerd Historical Collection, Elting Memorial Library. I think I found this in Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, IN. An LDS Center could probably get it for you. > From: "Kathrine Jenkins" <[email protected]> > Reply-To: [email protected] > Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 08:01:08 -0700 (Mountain Standard Time) > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [Rensselaer] Garrison > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 08:02:29 -0700 > >>> 1855 NYS Census for Sodus << > > One thing about genealogy--you learn something new everyday. > > This is the first I have heard of the 1855 New York census--where can I > locate it? I don't know what part of Rensselaer Co. (or what county) you're looking for, but two possibilities for the 1855 Census are: www.census-online.com click the census listing click New York state click Rensselaer Co. (or whatever) review for your listing. OR www.familysearch.com scan down to the Family History Center Nearest You search box enter your town to find the FHC closest to you. They'll be glad to help guide you at no charge go back to the Home page click the tab at the top for FH Library click Library Catalog click Place type in Rensselaer (or whatever) scan the Census listings. If you're looking for 1855 specifically and don't see the town you want (remember a "town" in NYS is the same as "township" in other states - a division of the county; not the actual village) click on the Secretary of State listing. It will be the most complete. Not all STATE Census records have survived. P.S. I'm interested in Abraham and John Garrison who served in Albany 14th Militia during the Revolutionary War; lived in the Pittstown area. NO, they do NOT descend from Abraham and Maria (Brower) Garrison! --- "Dorothy P. Keith" <[email protected]> wrote: > I don't know about on-line.
