Thanks Patrick for this information! I will certainly follow up on this and see if it can get me to the next stone. I will keep my eyes open for the Cummins / Commins during my searches. Wayne, Here is one you might look into. In Lt Colonel Erastus Cleveland's Ny Reg in 1814, the following Simmons were soldiers; Corporal Benjamin C., 190 -262; pvt. John, 190 -0 1027, and pvt. Williams Simmons, 190 - 663. Now also in this Regiment and I would like to note that in the entire period of the War of 1812 there were only 51 Ives soldiers, was a Silas Ives. Although there is a William Simmons in a NY regiment with a pension file, I am not sure if that William Simmons is the same William Simmons in this Regiment, but there is a John Simmons with a pension file and he is the John Simmons in this Regiment. Here is his abstract pension data; John or John Seamons or Simons, Mary A., WO-45443, served Capt. A. Hungerford's & Capt. J. G. Weaver's Co's Militia. Where was John from? Probably Troy as this is where Captain John G. Weaver was from before and after the war, as were a number of individuals in this Regiment. These individuals from Troy probably all served under Captain J. G. Weaver. Haven't run down Captain Rutherford yet,so its possible John served in another Regiment as well, and also Williams, but here is some more very interesting data; Corporal Benjamin C. Simmons when one tries to locate more data on him comes across a Sergant Benjamin C. Simmons that received a pension for serving in Colonel E. Sanfords Co. of Connecticut Militia . Here is his data ; Benjamin C. Simmons, Maryette, WC- 21336, served as a Sergant Major. Also in this Regiment was a George and Miles Ives. Miles also had a pension record, Hanna, WC- 22554. Hope this is the stone that crumbles your wall.
