Hi Patti, (and someone looking for Goewy) I couldn't fit in going to the Troy Lib., but ducked into the Watervliet Lib. to do your look-up. There was no 1850 directory available, as there would have been in Troy, so I checked the 1854, which was the closest year they had. page 14 in the WEST Troy section: Gray William, carpenter, h cor. broad and auburn Gray Joseph, saloon, whitehall, bet. union and utica That is how it was listed, small letters and punctuation. The "h" means house; "cor." is corner. The streets were Broad, Auburn, Whitehall, Union and Utica. The street names have changed ,of course. There were lots of Grays in the CITY of Troy section in 1860, in case you may have had family there. I also checked the 1905 directory just for kicks and there were 11 Grays listed on page 629 in the Watervliet and Green Island section. I didn't have GOEWEY info with me but noticed the name on page 628 of the 1905 Troy Directory, in the Watervliet and Green Island section. Goewey Henry C., carpenter, h. Arch near Cohoes Rd. My great grandparents , grandfather and family (JOHN, JANE, WILLIAM and JAMES REYNOLDS) lived right across Cohoes Rd. on Elm St. We think it used to be called Crandell Lane. Have found Crandell Lane in the street listings, but not on any map YET!! Wish I had had time to do more, but hope these listings will be for your families . Sheila
