I might have read it in searching for information on the internet or someone might have told me or maybe I "dreamed " it. I am under the impression that there was a time in Canada and parts of NE when Priests did not record Indian on Baptismal Records and also on Marriage Records in order to "protect" the individuals. Along with this if a marriage took place between an Indian and a white, Indian was listed if the person was not Christian but was not listed as Indian if the Indian had been baptized. I am also under the impression the French Protestant ministers did a similar thing but in general were more casual about identifying Indians. Is there any fact to this and if so where do I look?
