Hi Judy, Could the source be referring to the IGI at the LDS? Perhaps the Genealogical Index for Northern New York was copied from the LDS and put into book form? I also did a Google Book search with the words "Genealogical Index 4th Edition 1895" and quite a bit comes up. There is an Index to American Genealogies and to genealogical material contained in all works alphabetically arranged, fourth edition, Albany, 1895 in the Norfolk Library, Norfolk Conn. - this is the closest I came.
