I have some ancestors who were "flax drawers" first in Scotland and then in Schaghticoke. They seemed to leave Rensselaer County some time after 1880 and go to other places. One went to Webster MA to work in a Linen Mill and some others went to Providence, RI, right around 1900. Were there lots of things shutting down about that time? My g.g.grandfather (no relation to the Scottish flax workers) had a mill and shirt factory in Brunswick which was right on the Quackenkill. The City of Troy diverted the Quackenkill for a city water supply and he went bankrupt about 1885. Barb Baxter http://www.pinehurst.net/genealogy/
