I am happy to announce that we now have 794 Troy 1880 census records on line at the Rensselaer County site of GenExchange (see below for url). This is all because of the wonderful volunteer work of Eve Grogan, Lynn Grice, Denise Hernandez and Matt Bloomfield. They and others who are still working on their transcribing have meticulously transcribed difficult writing so we can get this census on line. It is important because this census is not indexed and anyone who ever looked at an unindexed microfilm know it takes forever just to cover one ward. These volunteers and those doing the 1870 census have been working hard and are still working hard to get the information on line. If anyone else would like to help, let me know. I have both censuses on cd for Troy and can send you a sheet for you to transcribe. A hint for searching on the site: Try an number of ways of spelling your surname. The writing is hard to decipher at times plus the enumerators spelled the the name all different ways. My own can be found as: O'Connor, O'Connors, Connors, Conners, Connor, Conner, Conor, Coner, etc. etc. etc. Happy hunting and let us know if you find an ancestor. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester
