Looking for parents of Mary E. Waters, married Charles Albert Hocum in Stephentown 25 July 1870. They raised their family in Franklin Co, MA I think her parents were Daniel Waters and Lucinda Marilla Hinkley. There is an Eliza or a Mary E. listed on all the census records I have found mentioning this family. Daniel served in the 125 NYS Vol, was captured at Harpers' Ferry and released the following day then captured again later in Petersburg, VA. This time he was not as fortunate. He was sent to Andersonville prison in GA where he died 27 Sep 1864. Lucinda Marilla remained in Stephentown and died 10 Jun 1887. She is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Stephentown. There was a son, Nathan, who married Anna ?. He died 25 Apr 1901 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Stephentown. There was also a daughter, Betsey, b. 29 Jan 1853. Her last name was Herwig in 1887. The 1855 census lists a John Hinkley living with them as a boarder. When I looked up Daniel's pension records at the Nat'l Archives in DC I found Lucinda's maiden name to be Hinkley. I wonder if John is her father? I would like proof that Daniel and Lucinda are MY Mary E.'s parents. Also would like to verify my suspicion that John Hinkley is Lucinda's father.
