Dear Lin, When I was a teen my mom had a history of the Troy fire department etc. Both my grandfathers were Troy fireman and my dad was a Troy cop. It had quite an article about this fire. It's been 30 years since I saw the article but I think the Green Island bridge caught on fire (perhaps from a train) and it burned for blocks. I've been thinking about incorporating it into my family book so if you don't get any more info before that I'll email you after my next trip to the library.
