    3. This response is a little late, but I wanted to share my experience. If I were you, I would go ahead and copy the photos, deduct the costs from the amount paid and refund the rest. A couple years ago I compiled a book of lineage, anecdotes and pictures for one of my lines. I sent letters to all the persons I had addresses asking for corrections of the data I had and any additions that they would like included in the book. I was pleasantly surprised to receive responses from over 70% of my queries (although some were as long as a year later), and when my book was finished almost all of them bought a copy. I set the price to just enough to cover my expenses, since I wasn't doing it for profit, only to share the info I and my mother had gathered through the years. One elderly relative after seeing a copy his son had purchased sent me an order for copies for all his other children and grandchildren. He included a nice bonus as a thank you for the work I had done. In this case, I accepted it and wrote him a nice letter thanking him for his generousity. I felt he did it because he realized how much work had gone into the production end, and would have been offended if I had returned his check. Sometimes graciously accepting a gift is important also.
