I have been trying to obtain information on my ggrandmother Mary Jane "Mae" LEONARD. She was from the Renssealar area. Her father was William Joseph LEONARD and her mother was Mary LYNCH. Mary Jane Leonard born October 7, 1887 was orphaned when her mother died in 1890 and her father in 1895. Her parents were Irish immigrants. The Leonard or Lynch families placed the child in a convent to be raised by the nuns. I do not know why the families did not take the child in, nor do I know what convent she was sent to. As a young woman she moved to the Ontario/Seneca County area and married a man named Calvin Williamson. She had a 2nd marriage to an James O'Neil and continued to live in Western NY until her death in 1980. If anyone can help unravel the mystery of grandma's childhood, I would love hearing from you.
