    2. Pat Connors
    3. I just received a new book, Guide to Naturalization Records of the United States by Christina K. Schemer. Here is what she had to say about our county and NYS: NYS: The earliest naturalizations in NY were the colonial oaths of allegiance taken in 1664, 1673, 1687, and 1776. Letters of denization were also granted by the king and by colonial governors until 1700. After 1790 naturalization records in NY can be found in county courts, including the county supreme courts, circuit courts, courts of common pleas, and the courts of oyer(??) and terminer(??). city courts, mayor's courts, marine courts, and US circuit and district courts also performed naturalizations. (I had the occasion to visit here in 1998. The records were in an attic with no supervision or air conditioning. Pages were ripped out of books. I was appalled and spoke to the personnel. Hopefully, all was filmed by LDS before the public got to these precious records.) Nial, Loretta M. city of Troy and Rensselaer County Court, 1816-1844 (Troy, NY: n.p., 1975, film 1304666).
