Rebecca Rector's list of some of the references to Slavery in NY makes me wish I had started this topic before my visit to Troy last month. I certainly would have spent more time at the NY State Library. Furthermore, Rebecca's Non-white population statistics for Renss. Co. are certainly very interesting. I would not have thought that slavery was so prevalent in NY State. With 56 slaves listed in Lansingburgh as late as 1814, it seems quite probable that my ancestor could have had one in 1800. Other persons responded directly to me when I first broached the topic of Slavery in Renss. Co. Some were of the opinion that Indentured Servants were included in the Slave Category as they were certainly not "Free" as all the other column headings are labeled. I am trying to find some documentation on this point. Brad Miter
