Yesterday, I announced that I am proud to be the new coordinator of the Rensselaer County GenExhange site. I also stated that I uploaded 100 records from the Troy 1880 federal census. It is now up there for all to see. If you would like to see all the records entered, don't put any names in the search form, just do a search with a blank form. Then you will get all the records. Tonight I uploaded 128 naturalization records of my family surnames. I don't know when it will get on site but if like the census it will be there tomorrow. Gradually I am uploading all my Rensselaer data (directories, census, cemetery, baptisms, etc.). As I said yesterday, it makes sense to have all the data in a centralized place rather than surf from site to site. Today someone emailed that if I sent her pages of the 1880 census (she knew the pages of her family), in turn, she would transcribe the records and also upload them to the GenExchange site. She suggested that other might like to do that also. So here's the offer. If you know that page(s) your ancestors are on, I'll send two at a time if you transcribe them into a template (I'll supply it) and send it to me. Then I'll upload it and send you two more sheets if you want them. Or if you just want to help, that's okay also. Gradually we could get all of the 1880 Troy census on line. I also have the 1870 census and index. If you know your ancestors name and address, I can also send those if you promise to transcribe the sheet and send it to me. How's that for a deal? I must warn you it is not easy to transcribe, the writing is hard to read. Also, as you go through the Rensselaer GenExchange site, you will notice there are not many records in the data banks, so I plead with you to help the site out and when you have a few minutes, please enter some of your data in the appropriate category. I found it really easy today just to put in my surnames. Once I put in the first record, their cookie saved all my data and the next time all I had to put in was my surname.
