Today I received a microfilm copy of the Cohoes Republican (newspaper) covering Jan thru June 1900. I was looking for an obituary in the Jan 2 issue, and I found that in that issue was a complete list of all the deaths that occurred in the city of Cohoes in 1899. There is a similar list of news events, so you can see who died in a fire, murder or other newsworthy event. If this practice was in place before vital records began to be recorded (around 1882), it could be a way to sleuth out some otherwise impossible-to-find information. Mark Dionne Newton, MA
