I also have a deep interest in seeing that the records of St. Joseph's parish remain available. Members of my family have been parishioners since its founding. Ideally, I'd like to see the records microfilmed but Rebecca's suggestion that the older records be placed in the Rensselaer County Historical Society library is a good one. As she said, they could then be accessed in a controlled environment. We should also be aware that St. Joseph's is the keeper of the records of St. Lawrence's Church and I believe those of Most Holy Trinity. If indeed the pastor is trying to discourage researchers from interrupting the daily business of the parish, then I would imagine he will also seal those records as well.
