Barb, The IGI at the Family History Library has three kinds of records. The one you refer to is accurate in that LDS members research their family and then have them baptized posthumously and the records go into the IGI. The second record they have in the IGI are family trees that you or I might submit of our own families - just family trees without any LDS attachment. The third record the IGI has is the information from the countless numbers of microfilms they have made around the world. I think I might have found the baptismal record of my gr.grandfather in Germany through the IGI and have looked at the microfilm where that record was obtained. It was the parish baptismal record in the original writing which had been microfilmed. The names were then transcribed by LDS volunteers and placed into the IGI along with the film number for a handy and clear reference.
