Am researching the family of Thomas Carroll and Mary Moss Carroll, who apparently lived in Saratoga Co and Rensselaer Co in the 1840s and 1850s. One probable son Robert Carroll fought in the Civil War for Colrain, Franklin Co MA. According to his pension file, he married Ellen James Williams Sept 29 1855 at Hoosick Falls. I wrote to Hoosick Falls town clerk, there are no records for Hoosick Falls that early. They were married by A.M. Beveridge, Minister of the Gospel, Lansingburgh. Does anyone on this mailing list know if A.M. Beveridge's records still exist? Should I try Lansingburgh? Robert Carroll and Ellen James Williams had two sons, both claimed to be born in Stillwater: Charles R Carroll Dec 12, 1856 and William J Carroll, Oct 5, 1860. According to marriage and death records for Charles and William, their father Robert was born in Petersburg. Have no proof that Robert was the son of Thomas Carroll and Mary Moss Carroll. Robert Carroll died in the Civil War. Am hoping his marriage record will have parents listed. Thomas and Mary were from Ireland, married in Canada in 1838. They settled in St. Albans Vt circa 1860. They had many children, all apparently born in NY before the move to VT. Their son Michael Carroll (my great great grandfather) may have been born Saratoga. Can't find the family on 1840 or 1850 census of Saratoga Co or Rensselaer Co. Jim Carroll
