Also, look at the separate towns at www.rootsweb /~nyrensse/ for more information. Part of Washington Co. included some of Vermont as I think has been discussed. Cliff is right, Vermont and NH were part of Canada, then part of NY or MA. If memory serves me right (it doesn't always), Canada used to be part of Massachusetts, even; and in the earliest years of settlement, Massachusetts was called Canaday (sp?). Also, the land east of the Hudson River was going to be part of New England, not New York State. I probably have printouts of this information somewhere, but it's a bit off subject. Marcia >
