    3. Since 1880 is when NY started doing birth and death certificates(some cities did it earlier, some where not very diligent ), you could look for a death or birth certificate. Since you do not know the exact dates, this means you would have to see if your city clerk (or whoever holds those records) would look through a few months. If you get a certificate of one of the children who dies, you could go to where they were buried and ask them to see if the children are buried together (or if you family had a common cemetery that they all used). This will save you money, since the city clerk will charge you per certificate and the cemetery will probably do it for no fee. You could also use the NYS archives, they have an index of death, births, and marriages for that time period. Very valuable source of info. Again that is also free. If you are interested in the 2 living children, search the city directories ( If the family lived in Troy at least). In one or more of those years, the children should be old enough to hold a job and will be listed in there. Match up the address of known relatives with the names of unknown relatives who live at the same address. Good Luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <LLMAHS@aol.com> To: <NYRENSSE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 29, 2001 5:26 AM Subject: [Rensselaer] finding children relatives born between 1880 and 1900 > In the 1900 census it lists my Ggrandmother as having had 8 children. 5 of > which were still alive.
