    3. Today I finished with the 1865 census and have started with the 1875 census. LDS film #: 0, 549, 885 I was happy to see that each ward had deaths and marriages, much like for the 1865 census. I will also transcribe them and get up on this list and my website as soon as possible. I still have the 9th and 10th ward of the 1865 census to type and get on line before I start posting the 1875 census. But, this was a fun census (1875) because for each ward, they give the going employment pay rate for the different employment occupations of the time. I copied the 1st ward to share with you: laborer $1.25 a day farm hands for regular season work $1.00 a day farm hands for seasonal harvest $2.00 a day women in factory $3.00 a week carpenters $3.00 a day, $18.00 a week stone masons $4.00 a day shoemakers $10.00 a week machinists $2.75 a day moulders $4.50 a day blacksmiths $2.50 a day painters $2.50 a day printers $16.00 a week dress makers $1.00 a day teamsters with two horses $6.00 a day teamsters with one horse $4.50 a day male teachers in public school $40.00 a week female teachers in public schools $20.00 a week street car driver $2.00 a day quarrymen $2.50 a day livery stablemen $1.75 a day Interesting stuff, especially the disparity between men and women wages. Now, they we are all talking about diseases, this should start another discussion. I hope so. Thanks to all who wrote to me and enlightened me about the diseases. AFter just doing the first ward for the 1875 census, I now have new diseases to ask about but will wait until I get the whole census completed. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
