Hi Listers: Still trying to solve the mystery of what happened to my great-grandmother and two of her daughters. My grandmother was MARY ELIZABETH CARROLL O'CONNOR and the 1880 census shows her living at 93 Ida Street, Troy with the following family members: James Carroll - Age 30 - Born Ireland Mary Carroll - Age 25 - Born Mary Dunn in Hurley, NY Mary Carroll - Age 7 - (my grandmother) Born in Hurley, NY (marries William O'Connor) Margaret Carroll - Age 5 - Born in Hurley, NY Catherine Carroll - Age 3 - Born in Hurley, NY Ann Carroll - Age 1- Born in Hurley, NY (marries Maurice J. Rainey) This census record was to first indication of the existence of Margaret and Catherine Carroll. No one in the family knew of these two daughters. We only knew of our grandmother Mary and her sister Ann. Family history has it that our great-grandmother died young and her husband James Carroll remarried a Ellen Bracken. The 1880 Troy City directory indicates that Ellen Bracken also lived at 93 Ida Street, Troy. In 1885 the first of three children is born to James and Ellen. The children were Helen Carroll Zepf, Lawrence Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll. To date I have been unable to find ANY records of the death of MARY CARROLL and the two daughters; MARGARET and CATHERINE. They had to have died during the period after the 1880 census was taken and the birth of Helen Carroll in 1885. I have checked cemetery records and they are not buried with James Carroll in his plot. I have complete records on all the other family members and their families but am stymied on these three. I would love to find a breakthrough in my search on these three individuals.
