    1. [Rensselaer] 1865 census data

    3. I am presently transcribing data from the 1865 New York State census for my ancestors. In doing so, I found that at the end of each ward (10 at the time), the enumerator listed all the deaths and marriages for the preceding year for the ward plus the ward's Civil War deaths. Knowing this was valuable information, I copied it and I am now typing the data into Excel spreadsheets to get on line on my website. As I was doing this I thought maybe I could start sending the information to the Rensselaer mailing list as I get the wards typed. So that is what I am going to start to do. So, if you are not interested in this info, I will identify what data and which ward in the subject of the email and you can delete the message without reading it. A bigggg word of caution. First of all, the surnames and the diseases were spelled wrong in the census and I have transcribed them as the enumerator spelled them. For example, I saw the surname, O'Brien, spelled O'Brine, O'Bryan, O'Brain, etc. and then, of course, without the 'O'. Secondly, the handwriting was extremely hard to read at times and I guessed at the spellings and or put ?? in the box. I have no other info than what I am post, other than you can order the microfilm at your local LDS Family History Library. The number is: 0, 549, 891. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
