Hope someone can help me. I have a list of my Osborn family that are buried in Oakwood Cemetery. It lists the Section Lot No. Burial # and Grave #. I was wondering if I write to the cemetery would they be able to tell me who the parents of these people are? What kind of information do they have? Does the cemetery charge for this service? Last does anyone have an address for the cemetery. Thank you for any information you may have. Barbara
Barbara, 2-3 years ago, Oakwood Cemetery charged $3 per individual. I paid for everyone in two plots to learn some family relationships. To the surprise of the family I was helping, a father and mother, previously unknown, was buried in each plot. The names had not been known, and there was no knowledge that they had immigrated with the children. I recommend that you find out how many people are in the plot and then get information about all of them. The form that they fill in to send you gives Interment #, Name, Place of Birth, Last Residence, Age, Social State, Date of Death, Cause of Death, Date of Interment, Section and Lot, Funeral Director, and Nearest Relative or Friend. In every case, it gave the relationship to that nearest relative. If a parent was buried in the plot, the closest relative listed might be a son or daughter who was burying them. If the son or daughter were buried, it would not likely tell the name of the parents unless there was no spouse, and the parents were taking care of the burial. I don't believe it would tell BOTH parents, in any case. It would probably list the father unless he was dead, in which case the mother would be listed as nearest relative. In any event, it is very likely the person supplying the information who will be named. If the parents lived elsewhere, neither is likely to be mentioned as relative. I received a small piece of paper showing the name of the lot owner, list of everyone buried in the lot, arrangement of graves, and the surnames of the surrounding plots. It could show relatives in adjoining lots. Inquire about this piece of paper. They probably charge for it, but I don't know what it is called (lot description?). Oakwood Cemetery Head of 101st Street Troy, NY 12180 Phone 518-272-7520 Good luck. Cliff barbara mcadams wrote: > Hope someone can help me.
