    1. [Rensselaer] 1880 census for Troy going on line

    3. I have worked out the technical problems I was having and started getting the 6th ward on line at my freepages site (see URL below). As of this writing I have 367 records up for all surnames starting with A and B. If you see a name that looks like yours, but not spelled the same, please check it out. First of all, the enumerators were not all good spellers especially when dealing citizens from another country, speaking with an accent and not knowing how to read or write. Secondly, we had major problems reading the enumerators' hand writing, so in many cases we just had to guess at what they wrote. Again, I offer you a copy of any page in the 1880 census for your records if you will, in return, transcribe another page to help out with our project. My thanks to Bob McConihe and Lynn Grice who daily do two to four pages and keep me busy printing and scanning. Without them, this wouldn't be possible. If you write to me this week requesting pages and with offers of help, I probably won't get back to you until the weekend because I am working hard getting the rest of the 6th ward on line. By the way, the 6th ward is in the most southernist part of Troy where the Burden Iron Works and other mills were located. Now we are moving north to South Troy, the 12th Ward. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner GenExchange Rensselaer County and Westchester County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=westchester Researching: Connors/O’Connor, Flynn, Campbell, McEntee, Carter, Booth, Boyle, Smith, O’Rourke, Cullinan, Martin, Manning, Fahey, Healey http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nymets/
