Hello All, I have recently completed updating the information on my website at www.angelfire.com/ga4/myhayes_family I have added several links on the home page that will allow you to see who some of the families are before you search through the Name Section. I now have the names of 621 persons who are my direct ancestors. I also have the names of 6,857 persons who were baptized in the Albany Reformed Church and 6,608 persons who were baptized in the Schenectady Reformed Church. There is also information about 40 persons who were on the Mayflower. A total of 28,965 persons in 8,537 families are listed on the website. The county pages have many links to other websites. I have additional information about many of the families that is not on the website. Please contact me if you need additional information about any specific person. Richard
I've "rescued" three old daguerreotype photographs in the original leather and velvet or silk cases containing photographs which are all connected to the ARMSTRONG - RUDD - HART Family. The first is a photograph of Sarah ARMSTRONG from the Pine & Bells Studio in Troy, New York. The photograph was likely taken in the 1860's or 1870's with Sarah appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time. In addition to her name, someone has included a note "Aunt Maude's Mother" along with the photograph. The second photograph is one of Achsa WILEY ARMSTRONG and spouse with no studio or location identified. The couple in the photograph appear to be in their 30's or 40's at the time it was taken, likely sometime in the 1860's or 1870's. In addition to the name a note indicates "Lyman Armstrong RUDD'S great uncle". The third is a photograph of Hannah Heartt HART, again with no studio or location identified. I would guess that the woman in the photograph is in her 60's or 70's and that it was taken in the 1860's or 1870's. A note with the third photograph indicates that Hannah is "Lyman RUDD'S great-great-great Aunt". Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding those pictured in the photographs or mentioned on the notes: Lyman Armstrong RUDD was the son of Lynn C. RUDD (b. 27 Jun 1892) and Sarah ARMSTRONG. Census records provide the following info: 1880 census of Union, MI: Alfred ARMSTRONG, age 46, a Farmer, born VT, parents born VT Achsa ARMSTRONG, wife, age 41, Keeping House, born NY, parents born NY Dora ARMSTRONG, dau, age 12, at School, born MI Henrietta WYLIE, boarder, age 42, at Home, born NY, parents born CT/MA + 1 day laborer boarding 1920 census of Union, MI: living in the home of Wylie & Ada HUBBARD Achsa ARMSTRONG, age 81, a widow, born NY, parents born NY/MA I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old precious treasures can be returned to the care of a family member. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I'm a little curious about this. Cemeteries aren't anywhere near as big as Oakwood around here but people have gone out and indexed burials in cemeteries and put the names and dates they found in books. They don't do that in New York? I always assumed they did that everywhere. ---------------------- > Date: Sun, 16 Nov 2008 20:04:29 -0500 > From: clifflamere@nycap.rr.com > To: nyrensse@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [NYRENSSE] Oakwood Cemetery listing > > Martha, > > Oakwood Cemetery has almost 60,000 people buried there, so it would be a > project too large to do. 60 volunteers would have to transcribe a > thousand gravestones each. I wrote to Oakwood and they sent me information. In addition, I found much info on LDS films. During a trip to Troy, a person in the cemetery office looked up (on a computer) a number of names for me, and I found many of my ancestors' graves. Nancy **************Get the Moviefone Toolbar. Martha, Oakwood Cemetery has almost 60,000 people buried there, so it would be a project too large to do. 60 volunteers would have to transcribe a thousand gravestones each. You probably saw a few selected burials put on a site like Find-a-Grave. As was mentioned Barbara Jefferies transcribed some of them, but it was fewer than 400 stones. Click on the following if you would like to read a little about the cemetery (their own site). http://www.oakwoodcemetery.org/ Cliff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Martha Johnson wrote: >I once found an online listing of burials in Oakwood Cem. in Troy, >but can not find it again. Your probably talking about Barbara Jefferies's web page which I don't think is available any more. She had listed some of the older burial info in Oakwood. I know there was an attempt by people on this forum to save her data, but I don't know where it is - if anywhere. However, you can find a much more complete listing on microfilm from LDS. There is a lot of background info on the people buried there. Greg At 05:01 PM 11/16/2008, you wrote: >I once found an online listing of burials in Oakwood Cem. in Troy, >but can not find it again. I've "rescued" an old family photograph of the BOND Family including Lillian BOND, Mary Jane SWISHER BOND, and Flora BOND SAUNDERS which was taken at the Saunders Studio in Milton, Wisconsin. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's and includes two unidentified people as well as the three ladies. The oldest appears to be Mary Jane looking to be in her 50's of 60's at the time, with Lillian and Flora both looking to be in their 30's or 40's. Also in the photograph is a young man appearing to be in his teens and a young girl about 6 years old as well. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Mariah "Mary Jane" SWISHER b. 27 Aug 1831 in Rockford, VA to parents Isaac SWISHER (b. 15 Jul 1793 in Browns Creek, VA) and Mariah JETT (b. 20 Jan 1796 in Fauquiere Co. VA). Mariah married Daniel Moore BOND M.D. in 1849 and moved to WI that same year. Florence Virginia BOND b. 12 Sept 1854 in Johnstown Center, WI to parents Daniel Moore BOND (b. 22 Mar 1826 in Lost Creek, WV) and Mariah Jane SWISHER (b. 27 Aug 1831 in Rockford, VA). Daniel & Mariah BOND had three children, Florence Virginia; Franklin Lewis; and Lillian M. BOND all born between 1854 and 1863 in WI. Mariah Jane SWISHER BOND died 25 Apr 1909 in Ashaway, RI at the home of her daughter Flora. Florence married Edward Bates SAUNDERS (b. 7 Jun 1851 in Berlin, NY) on 30 Jan 1878 in Janesville, WI and together they had 3 children including, Howard Bond; Ethel Mildred; and Irma SAUNDERS all born between 1879 and 1886 in Hallock, IL; Milton, WI; and Madison, WI. Florence BOND SAUNDERS died 12 Apr 1922 in Beaver Falls, PA. Lillian BOND b. 18 Mar 1863 in WI, the daughter of Daniel Moore BOND and Mary Jane SWISHER. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of the family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
