I may be the first person (in 100 yrs anyway) to transcribe these. The copy I transcribed from was probably typed from the original records on an ancient typewriter, the kind where the ink pools up within some of the letters, and when the person does a stike-over the word becomes illegible. Nonetheless, these were worth struggling through. PLEASE let me know if the name of an individual you may know well, as in he/she is in your Tree, is mangled and you can solve the problem of "the name is WHAT?!!" I only have one more section to transcribe. http://song-page-coralynn.0catch.com/TRANSCRIPTIONS/Rensselaer%20County%20Wills/CONTENTS.html Cheers, Coralynn B.

Five local churches are scheduled to close very soon. They are: St. Patrick's - Watervliet St. Brigid's - Green Island St. Patrick's - Troy St. Joseph's - Green Island St. Mary's - Troy Before these churches close, the Troy Irish Genealogy Society could use volunteer help in documenting the family names and inscriptions that are memorialized within the church buildings on the stained glass windows, statues, wall plaques, etc. There is a lot of information on these memorials such as family names, date and place of birth or death, titles and positions held, records of service in our nations various wars, etc. Once these churches close, this information which is of interest to family historians, will be lost. If you are not familiar with the Troy Irish Genealogy Church Memorial Project visit the TIGS website: www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ click on PROJECTS and then click on CHURCH MEMORIALS AND FAMILY NAMES. This project covers churches of ALL denominations and includes closed churches as well as those that are remaining open. To date, the 13 churches already on the website are: Church of the Ascension - Troy Christ Church United Methodist - Troy Cornerstone Community Church - Troy First United Presbyterian Church - Troy First Presbyterian Church - Troy (Now Bush Memorial Center at Sage College) Oakwood Presbyterian - Troy St. Francis de Sales - Troy St. Joseph's - Green Island St. Lawrence - Troy St. Paul's Episcopal - Troy St. Paul the Apostle - Troy St. Peter's - Troy St. William's - Troy Out of the five churches scheduled for closing, the memorials in St. Joseph's, Green Island have already been documented and can be found on the TIGS website. If you can help with documenting the memorials in the other four churches scheduled for closing contact the TIGS Project Coordinator offlist at seamus@nycap.rr.com. Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY

What site are you referring to, Barbara? Why doesn't the census record for the 1865 census for Schaghticoke open. > > Also, why doesn't Lynn put her e-mail address on the page instead of having > to install something else in order to write to her (which I couldn't do). > > -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Why doesn't the census record for the 1865 census for Schaghticoke open. Also, why doesn't Lynn put her e-mail address on the page instead of having to install something else in order to write to her (which I couldn't do). Barbara
Several years ago I was in Troy researching the records of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. At that time the records were at St . Joseph Catholic Church since St. Lawrence was no longer a functioning church. I plan on being in Troy this summer for more research. Can anyone tell me if the records are still at St. Joseph and if they can still be researched. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is a list I put online a few years ago that you might find helpful. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrenss2/RensChurchIndex.htm Did the North Nassau Baptist Church exist in the 1860's? > Would this be at the Troy Public Library or the Historical Society? > -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Hi, New to list. Am looking for a record of some sort for the marriage of Sarah SOUTHWICK and Jonathan PIERCE, 1786/89, Stephentown, Rensselaer Co., NY. I know there are no court house records, so it would have to be church records. They were both born in MA. She in 1766, the daughter of Copia WHITE and Jesse SOUTHWICK. He in 1765, the son of (possibly, Jonathan PIERCE and Sarah PAGE, which is not confirmed) Both of Sarah SOUTHWICK'S parents were Shakers, other than that, I would have no idea what church records to look for. Would really appreciate any help. Thank you, Jerrian
Hi, Was wondering if anyone has access to the baptism records for St. Mary's Church in Troy, New York? I am looking for the baptism and parents of Edouard MIOT, 11 October 1847. His father would be Francois or Francis and his mother went by Mary. I need his mother's last name, if available. Many thanks, Bonnie
You can find it here: http://www.archive.org/details/1930_census You have to look at it the old way, page by page, not searchable. But it is free. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Thank you to all that responded to my request for the weather on 1 March 1961 Sharon
I am wondering if some kind soul, when at the Troy Public Library, could look up the weather report for March 1, 1961 and the following Sunday. I think that should be 5 March, 1961. I believe March 1, 1961 was a Wednesday. I would like to know if any eventful thing on the front page was going on that day. Thank you Sharon
3 Feb. 1866 at Sand Lake Presbyterian, Mrs. Margaret Smith married Henry Fullerton, by Pastor Albert C. Bishop. We suspect that this Mrs. Margaret Smith was the widow of Edward P. Smith who died sometimes between June 1860 and June 1865, Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co. (Census dates) in a Milling Accident. However, if wer're correct about this, the marriage did not last as Margaret Smith is living in Sand Lake (Page 35, Image 35) [269-304] with her 3 children by Edward P. Smith: Elizabeth, Edward and Eleazer.. She is Margaret Smith in 1880 in N. Greenbush, Page 36, image 36 (265-370) with her sons. Daughter Elizabeth (b. 1850-1854) is no longer at home. [We have not found her marriage]. The marriage in 1866 is proven by a marriage certificate found among a descendant's papers (descendant of Margaret). The Certificate gives only the information as above, lacking any identifying information. There is a Henry Fullerton, ae 60, 1870 residing Stillwater, Saratoga Co., NY, Image 61, July 11, [421-506], residing with John J.? Fullerton and family. Is there an existing Presbyterian church in Sand Lake now that would cover that time period? Deanna Smith

Kristin Cooney-Ayotte -----Original Message----- From: Steve Davis <steve@economywebdesign.com> To: GEN NY Rensselaer <NYRENSSE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, Feb 6, 2010 4:55 pm Subject: [NYRENSSE] Seeking onformation on DAVIS/DAVIES Hello; My name is Steve Davis, and I am responding to this list from Northern California. I am new to this list, and I look forward to any assistance or guidance you can provide me in my quest for information on my DAVIS/DAVIES Ancestry in Renssalaer and Oswego Counties and the general Mohawk Valley. I apologize for any redundancy, but I have posted this message on both this and the NYOSWEGO mailing lists, as the DAVIS lives overlapped the Mohawk Valley Region, particularly, according to family legend, Troy and Utica, NY, and may have also included other list areas (recommendations welcome). I have attempted every possible online resource that I could find, before asking for assistance here. I don't want to waste anyone's time, so if you know of any online or offline resource that might assist me, your tips will be appreciated. Here is what I know: I am a family historian looking for information on three generations of DAVIES/DAVIS Doctors in the Troy and Utica areas of NY from 1790-1830. My G-G-G-G-grandfather, Dr. Edward Davies, (b. Wales estimated circa 1755-65); he was educated in Wales, graduated from the Medical University in Aberystwyth, Wales (his Davies family was allegedly instrumental in the establishment of that Medical University, at which an Edward Davies Hall still exists). He and his son imigrated to America where Edward was reportedly in the medical Corps for the Continental Army. He is said to have settled in Troy, NY, where he had a medical practice (circa 1810-15?). He may have helped establish a medical school in the area. My G-G-G-grandfather, Dr. James Timothy or James Lloyd Davis (Davies) (b. estimated circa 1775-90) came to America with his father, above, and was sent back to Wales to also graduate from the Medical University in Aberystwyth. He then returned to America, legally changed his name to DAVIS, and established a medical practice in Utica, NY (circa 1815-1840?) and may have been an instructor at a local Medical University. My G-G-grandfather, Dr. George Edward Davis, b. circa 1801 or 1810, received his medical training at a Medical School/University in mid-state NY sometime between 1818-1834. He then migrated east on the Erie Canal as it was completed and settled in the Saginaw Michigan Area. He married Mary West, b. circa 1815-1820, also reportedly from NY, at the time of the move. I have been able to document Dr. George Davis' life after that move, but I need info from the Uttica-Troy regions to complete the three generations of DAVISES. I have researched medical schools in the region and find that only the following Medical schools existed in that time frame: 1.. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Western District of New York. 2.. Kings and Columbia Schools of Medicine, established 1767. 3.. College of Physicians and Surgeons, established 1807-13 4.. Rutgers College (Queens College), established 1812-16 5.. New York School of Medicine, established 1830-33. Here is where I can use the help of anyone on this list who might have information they are willing to share with me: 1.. Where would I look to find information on students and instructors for any of the above medical schools in the time fram indicated? Is there a central information source for NY Physicians and Surgeons that would go back that far? Are the records of the above schools, since discontinued, contained in any local library, historical society, or other repository? 2.. Where would I find birth records for this region and timeframe, for both George Davis and Mary West? Family history speaks of an "Uncle Ben West" reportedly a Quaker from NY or PA. 3.. I have found a few reference sites related to the Continental Army Medical Corps, but does anyone know a reliable source to confirm his service to the Corps in the battle of 1812, as told in family legend? 4.. Anyone have any idea where I could inquire as to the legal records of the name change from DAVIES to DAVIS? Family lore insists it was done legally by James Lloyd (or James Timothy) Davis to demonstrate he was not sympathetic to the crown around the war of 1812. I very anxiously await any hints, clues, leads, or recommendations anyone might provide me.
