    1. [NYRENSSE] RC: Mattoon, Watson, Johnson, Donovan/Donahue, Zimmer
    2. Ellen Blake
    3. with some side lines of Decker and Henderson. My Mattoon family lived in the Lansingburg area of Troy and earlier in Rensselaer (East Greenbush). Zimmer's lived in Rennselaer but earlier in Albany. Mary Johnson was born Mary Patten in Bershire Co, Massachusetts, married George W. Mattoon, he died and somewhere along the line she married a Johnson, but was widowed when she lived with her son, Charles W. Mattoon, in 1900 in Troy. Charles H. Watson was a grocer, he had one son also named Charles, but I have no info if that son ever married. (He wasn't in 1925) Charles H. Watson, was married to Sarah Donovan/Donahue (both names on official records) but she was no longer on census with him after 1910, so I have no idea what happened to her. She is not buried with him. Mary Zimmer had several brothers, all who died fairly young, but that doesn't mean they never married, either. Anyone with connections? My great grandparents Charles and Mary (Zimmer) Mattoon buried at Oakwood with Henderson family. Their daughter was married to a John Henderson but she died young and is buried there also with her young son who also died (flu epidemic?). Charles' mother, Mary Johnson, is buried with his wives family Zimmer at Albany Rural Cemetery. Mary Zimmer had one sister named Willandena who married William Decker, they are also buried at Albany Rural. Ellen

    1. [NYRENSSE] LOVETT
    2. My g.g.grandfather, George Henry Lovett was born in Troy, NY May 13, 1852. His father's name was Ulysses. I believe his mother's name was Eliza, but I do not know for sure. Ulysses placed George in the Troy Orphan Asylum where he remained from 1861-1863. The dates coincide with the end of the Civil War, although I do not know if Ulysses was in the war or not, although he never returned for his son. In 1863 (at age 13 or 15) George Henry Lovett was indentured out to a George Sheldon of Willsboro, NY. George Lovett eventually married Mary Evelyn Pratt b. April 29, 1858 in Lewis,NY. Mary was the daughter of William Pratt and Lillian Crosset. George and Mary Lovett had several children including my great grandmother Anna Elizabeth Lovett b. May 13, 1888. George and Mary Lovett had several children including my great grandmother Anna Elizabeth Lovett b. May 13, 1888 in Willsboro. The other children were:George Edward b.1877, Mary Agnes b.1880, William Oscar b.1883, Emma Susan b. 1885, then Anna Elizabeth b. 1888, Victor Raymond b. 1891, Harry Herman b. 1894 and Minnie Jame b. 1897. Anna Elizabeth married John Benway Jr. the son of John Benway and Delia?. My guess is that Anna and John may have been married in 1902., probably in a Catholic, possibly in the St. Philip of Jesus Church in Willsboro where she was baptised on Oct. 30, 1902. Could this have been their wedding day? Anna and John had 12 children: Wyman, Herwood, Wallace, George Edward, David, Phillip, Kenneth, Vewrnon, Eugene, Norman, Elizabeth and Naomi. My grandfather was David Benway who was born in Willsboro on July 21, 1909. Any info on the Lovett or Benway family would be greatly appreciated. Would love to share info. Thank you so much. Jackie in Connecticut.

    1. [NYRENSSE] Re: Roll Call; COSGRO(ve) QUINAN,
    2. Donald Cosgro
    3. James Carroll COSGRO born about 1837, in Ireland, shows up on the 1850 Census in Troy, as a "machine card manufacturer" then the 1855 NYS census as a "reedmaker" 1855 NYS census shows him as a resident of Troy for 11 years. Married Catherine QUINAN in Cohoes in 1865. Died in Cohoes in 1915. Parents and siblings are ????? BRICK WALL. Lived in Troy from 1844 until moving to Cohoes in 1874. Served in US ARMY cavalry from 1857-1863. Supposedly, his middle name is taken from Charles Carroll of Carrolington signer of Dec. of Indepedence, somehow related. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [NYRENSSE] Death Certificates
    2. Barb Baxter
    3. I keep seeing postings from people who want to know the parents of Rensselaer County people who have died in the 1890s and early 1900s. It's not too likely that any of us would know since it is too recent. I wonder why they don't consider the possibility of getting the person's death certificate which will not only list the names of both parents but also the place of birth of those parents (if the person giving the information knew). That source alone got me back into the late 1700s in one case. My ancestor's youngest sib lived into the 1880s and his death certificate gave the maiden name of their mother. I then found her baptism record from 1793 and the calculated birthdate on her gravestone differed from the birthdate in her baptismal record by exactly one year. When she died, apparently her family thought she was one year younger than she actually was but the month and day were perfect. Sometimes these things take much digging and detective work, but the civil records are the easiest to access and the first places I always look (land, wills, vital records, burials and other court records) BTW, does anyone know if the Diver Funeral Home in Schaghticoke is still around or whether their records have been preserved?
