    1. [NYRENSSE] Shirt-making companies
    2. Lin
    3. Hi, All Have any of you run across references to these companies in Troy, Rensselaer Co NY? HALL, VAN BUREN & CO. (this reference was in 1874) and HALL, HARTWELL & CO. (this reference was in 1936) I believe they may have been shirt makers. It is remotely possible that they have some link to Norwich, New London Co CT. All sightings appreciated! 1. [NYRENSSE] New Website for Albany Area
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. I have begun a website designed to aid the genealogical researcher who has interest in Albany, NY and the surrounding counties. It focuses on the following NY counties: Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie, Montgomery and Greene. At present, the major part of the site consists of links to vital records (birth, baptism, marriage, and death), plus some censuses, deeds, wills, military records, various other kinds of lists (tax, poor house, etc.), maps, online articles, etc. Also, my Guide to Albany Area Genealogical Resources, which some of you have already seen, has been moved to this NEW location. If you had it bookmarked, be aware that you will have to bookmark it again. Between other projects, I will try to transcribe some records and post them. I have some things begun, but they were put on hold while trying to get this site working. I would welcome any census, cemetery or church records for these counties if you would like to transcribe them and have your work posted. You would get full credit for the labor. There are other records or lists of people that would be appropriate as well. The site is far from finished, but I decided to open it for visitors while I continue working on it. Schoharie and Greene counties are poorly represented at this point. If you know of links that I have missed, I would welcome your suggestions. The URL is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Cliff Lamere Albany, NY

    3. Does anyone know anything about a Henry and/or Perry WARREN who may have been living in Pittstown in mid-1803? They were named co-administrators of the estate of my Job Green along with his widow Joanna and oldest son Daniel. Could they have been sons-in-laws? Job and Joanna had 3 daughters who could have been married by then, Eunice (b. 1777), Margaret (b. 1783) and Sarah (b. 1785). Barb Baxter http://www.pinehurst.net/genealogy/

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: JOAN REICHLING To: Rensselaer Mailing List Sent: Friday, August 11, 2000 4:40 PM Subject: Books Hi Everyone......I'm new to the list. Researching OBERACKER/OVERACKER/OVEROCKER family who lived in Schaghticoke, Pittstown, Tomhannick area from about 1771 through the 1800's. I've learned that living there at that time put them squarely in the middle of Indian Country and then the Revolutionary War. I want to learn more about life there in those times, and have seen reference to two books that I can't find: The Identity of the St. Francis Indians by Gordon M. Day and Rensellaer Memoirs (May not be exact title) by Mrs. Bleeker, published in 1793. Has anyone seen or heard of these books? Any advice on how to find either one? 3. Have you tried looking in a local LDS Family History Center? Their webpage says they have one right in Denver along with many others thoughout the state. They have the Troy City Directories on film (you may have to order them though) along with the NY State Census. I am not sure what resources they have there in Denver, but the Family History Center many times will beat out the archives when it comes to what you are looking for. Remember the National Archives only contain data relating to national data, this does include great sources (ie. fed. Censuses, immigration, military service); but the family history centers contain only information pertaining to genealogy. I know that the FHC here in Los Angeles has all of the federal censuses, the NY state Censuses for Renss and Albany county, City Directories, plus they have access to cemetery info, church records, etc. etc. Plus the hours are usually better than the archives Being a long distance researcher, I know exactly the troubles you are having. And having spent a few days last week in Troy, I had to make the tough decision of where to go and what to do with my limited time (I did a few cemetery walks and the rest at the state archives). good luck ----- Original Message ----- From: "bmyers" <bmyers@du.edu> To: <NYRENSSE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 7:52 PM Subject: [NYRENSSE] MYERS, RYAN, LOOBY, DWYER, KEENAN, ORR, COUGHLIN, etc. > Hello All, > > Well, I've finally had some time to spend at the National Archives, and have > extracted a good amt. of info. from the census there. 3. Hello All, Well, I've finally had some time to spend at the National Archives, and have extracted a good amt. of info. from the census there. My latest problem (among many) is that the 1910 and 1920 census' are not indexed here in Denver. On top of that, the 1910 is unreadable...I'll find out the readability of the 1920 census when I get to it tomorrow. Our library does not have the city directories for Troy here, and I already have the 1890 directory. What alternate sources can I look at that are more readily available? Do I have to wait until I can visit NY again to look at the city directories, or does anyone know if I can ILL them? Working in the other direction (backward), I found the year (possible) that my gggrandmother (HANNAH RYAN MYERS) moved to NY from Ireland. Although it says she moved here in 1852 at the age of 12, I cannot locate a person with her name and the proper age before 1880. I cannot even find my ggrandfather (THOMAS MYERS)...to make things more difficult, I think he died young so many census records show her as being a widow. I'll put this out there again...there are a few of you I've contacted before who had similar names. I'm finding many LOOBY'S (ED), DWYERS, COUGHLINS, RYANS, etc. who are related. I don't have a clear idea of how the LOOBYS are related...just that they are probably cousins somehow, and are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetary in Troy. Any catches? Any suggestions? I will be visiting Troy in the first part of September, and am trying to figure out where my one or two days (I know..not much time) will be best spent...at St. Joe's Church, cemetary, or the Troy library. I'd like to do all of the above, but am not sure how much time I will have as I have one living relative who I also plan to visit. Thank You Sincerely, Brooke Myers also looking for KEENANS, ORRS

    1. [NYRENSSE] Information on Robert JEFFERS
    2. Linda Wilbur
    3. I need vital data on and family information on Robert JEFFERS. All I know is that Robert served in the 14th Regiment of Albany Co. Militia ("Colonel Peter Yates' Regiment") in the Revolutionary War. (He provided an affidavit for my 4th great grandmother, Anna Francisco VanDerCook VanNess, when she filed for her widow's pension in 1837.) Indications are that three of Robert's daughters and one of his sons married children of Cornelius VAN DER COOK and his wife, Marya/Maria MANDEVILLE. One of these may be the Mary Jeffers who married Michael VanDerCook, son of Cornelius and Marya. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
