This morning I posted the Nobletown and Hillsdale (Columbia Co., NY) baptism records of Rev. Gideon Bostwick, 1770-1793. He was a traveling minister from Great Barrington, MA and came into eastern NY which was, I believe, claimed as part of Massachusetts at that time. The records were typed and contributed by Susan Mulvey. Thank you Susan! To view them, go to my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Look for "Vital Records - Births and Baptisms" You will find Nobletown there. Cliff
I have been learning more about my Hendricks line and though my Hendricks family came to America straight to Illinois, it is apparent that they were from Ostfriesland in Germany alongside the Netherlands. In researching my Wilcox line in Rensselaer I have noticed many Hendricks and Hendrickse that I dismissed before. Now I am wondering if anybody out there is familiar with the Hendrickse family. Were they Dutch Reform? Does anybody know where I could start living in Illinois? Scott Hendricks
I have a Joseph Gibbs who married Sybil Slade who was born 19 Aug 1765 and died 24 Aug 1805. This would have been in the Town of Hoosick or Pittstown in Rensselaer County. This is all I know about him but perhaps you could get more information if you would write to Ellen J. Wiley,Town of Pittstown Historian,Box 72 Valley Falls, NY 12185. That is where I got my info. Hello all, I am trying to find information on my g g grandfather Washington L. Taylor and his wife Mary Ann Taylor. Washington enlisted in the 43rd NY Vol. Infantry in 1862, and within two months was dead of disease in Maryland. His wife Mary Ann remarried, to Daniel Crane. She is buried in the Larkin Cemetery in Hoag Corners. Washington and Mary Ann had at least two sons. John W. Taylor (buried in Nassau) and (Frank B. Taylor) from whom I am descended, and who died in Danbury, CT. If anyone has any information regarding any of these individuals, I would sure appreciate it. I'm still waiting for Washington's Service Record from DC, as well as Mary Ann's widow's pension information, which may be helpful. Thanks a lot, and good hunting!
I saw your posting on the Saratoga Mail List. I have a William Follett who is older than your William. My William was born 6/27/1745 in Connecticut and died 3/10/1808 in Pittstown, NY. He was married to Lois Burnham. They had a Daughter, Sarah, who married Simon Newcomb (my Wife's family name). I have found some information on William, but no information on Lois. If these people are in your tree, I would appreciate swapping data with you. Walt Warren spooner@coastalnet.com

Charles Quackenbush is the brother of my great great grandmother. He was murdered in Johnsonville, NY sometime between February and March of 1918. He was buried in North Adams, MA on April 16, 1918. I am trying to figure out exactly when he died and locate his obituary. A fellow web volunteer told me that he died on March 18, 1918. I wrote to North Adams for his obit, but they could not find it. They did find his burial notice which indicated that he had been murdered two months prior, leading me to believe that he may have died in February of 1918. His burial notice was in the paper in North Adams because his body was transported to North Adams for burial. First, he was placed in the vault at Hillside Cemetery (ground probably too frozen to bury at time) and then buried in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. His burial received press because he was a former resident of North Adams and because he was murdered. 1. Does anyone else have info on Charles? 2. If not, does anyone know how I go about getting an obit from Johnsonville when I have a range of two months time? Thanks for your help. Holly
In Stephentown. 1800 and 1810 census says Nathaniel SPRING was there - Stephentown in Rensselaer Co., NY. 1820 census there's an Ebenezer SPRING - son? I think Nathaniel SPRING may be a brother to my Ephraim SPRING. Anyone out there know anything about Nathaniel and his wife Rebekah?
Has anyone come accross the Name's CLARKE or BUSCH in their research. William A Clarke and his wife Jane A. Busch had a son George F. Clarke born about 1871/72. The only sourse I have is that George was from NY and listed his parents names. A recent cemetery search on the net listed a George F Clarke b 1872-d 1941 and buried at St Peters, Brunswick,NY. Any suggestions or information on the above would be appreciated.
Hi Listers! Hoping to connect with someone familiar with this familiar (that has dozens of spellings!!) I did locate some information on the GenWeb site. Does any kind soul out there have the 1850 Federal Census that could do a lookup? I am looking for an Eliza Lifeheit that was born August 3, 1827 in NY. I found these on my index: John Lifeheit pg. 051 - Poestenkill Stephen pg. 051 " Philip Lifite - Sand Lake pg. 339 Eliza married in 1852 to Carl Fredrick Schlensker (b. Jun 11, 1826 in Germary). I have been unable to find a marriage record on them. Any help on this family would be appreciated! Karen in Florida
Would there be other books with ministers of the area listed with marriages available.? I have very limited NY access and am not familiar with what might be available. I am looking for the marriage of NOYES JONES b 1808 Rensealer Co and Susan MAdison b 1818 NY/MA depends on which census y0u look at. Family can not determine if married in NY or MASS? Some ancestors stated HOLYOKE MASS< supposedly know SPRINGFIELD? Which I know is two different places. All children but one born in NY Rensealer Co. One supposedly died in Rensealer Co NY after 1850 NOEL JONES, son of NOYES and Susan Madison JONES. Family migrated to ILL and later to IA. I can really use some help here. Thankyou in advance for any help you can offer.
Thanks for the information Cliff.....do you have any idea when City directories started to be published? Before 1890? I have to reply to the whole list with my excitement - this what genealogy is all about, and especially the wide community we are because of the internet! I have been looking for Carroll family information for some time now and have posted my inquiries on the Carroll family list. I subscribe to this list for all the pointers to the geographic sources necessary since they were from Rensselaer County. Imagine my surprise as I read this posting in my mail this morning!!! I will write to Jim under separate cover, but Charles Carroll was my great-grandfather and lived most of his life in Vermont and Massachusetts, settling (and buried in) Rowe, Massachusetts. His youngest daughter was my grandmother, her only daughter my mother (Thomas>Robert>Charles>Jessie>Phyllis>me!) I have Robert's pension files and there are no parents listed, but an obscure note from another family member's files mentioned Thomas and *Elizabeth* as parents. I found them in cemetary records and wrote to the town clerk only to be informed their records start later than these deaths and I need to write to the state - something I have not yet done. Anyway - thank you all for sharing for keeping this list alive! I have just posted "City Directories as a Research Tool" on my website. City directories are much more useful than most people think, especially when church and municipal records cannot be found. Jim, For the time period when Thomas and Mary were married, Troy had city directories. Lansingburgh would have been part of the directory. Since you already know the parents, you can look for the father and probable son in the Troy directory. If they were both employed they will probably both be listed. When Thomas first got a job, it is likely that he was still living with his father, so they will both be listed with the same address, except that Thomas would probably be listed as a border. He might even have lived with his parents for awhile just after getting married. Cliff, Once again, I think you are getting me back on the right track. You mentioned that children who were working in Troy while still living at home might be listed as boarders. Now I have to go back and relook at the directories as I had thought they would be relatives and not immediate family. Thank you for your knowledge and being willing to share. Somewhere along the line I found this website: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html It finds many locatoins, but is especially good at locating cemetaries - fill in name, state - hit search, and the listing will include an option of seeing a map generated by the Tiger Map Service of the U.S. Census Bureau. Would anyone possibly have the book called "Mineral Waters" by Reuben Sears. I would really appreciate a look up on the Schouten name or reference to High Rock on Page 89. Also a book called "Steele's Analysis", 2nd edition Page 28, with the same reference to place and name. Thanks so much to anyone that might be able to help. Debra
