    1. [NYRENSSE] 1880 Troy Census
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Another 100 people have been entered on the Rensselaer GenExchange site for the 1880 census for a total of 200 records. Check out the site and see if any of the entries are your ancestors. We now have four more volunteers transcribing records. It's hard work but very satisfying. The 1880 census does not have an index. When this project gets done, we will have one. The more volunteers we have the quicker this will get done. Each page takes almost four hours to transcribe and are over 500 pages. I also have the 1870 census and index. If you volunteer, I will send you the page of your ancestors to transcribe. What a deal! -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer

    1. [NYRENSSE] Quigleys in Troy
    2. bmyers
    3. Hi Listers, I am looking for people with QUIGLEY relations in Troy. Specifically QUIGLEYS who lived at/around 126 and 128 Bedford St. I found this information from the Troy City directory of 1890. The reason I am looking is to attempt verification of a story my late grandfather told me about a crime between one of my MYERS relatives and a QUIGLEY man. I do not know the first names as all these men seemed to have nicknames (probably due to the commonality of given and surnames among the Irish). I have more information about this story, but it is probably not appropriate to elaborate here. Again, if anyone has any QUIGLEY ancestors who lived in Troy around that time, PLEASE contact me. I might be interested in a Michael QUIGLEY, husband of Mary QUIGLEY, who left her a widow by the 1890 directory. Thank You, Brooke Myers

    1. [NYRENSSE] Frederick MARTIN
    2. Joyce Riedinger
    3. Hello Fellow Researchers, I am starting to follow up on my "Frederick MARTIN" family. I have seen on the Rensselaer website that their first daughter Elizabeth was baptized at the Schaghticoke Dutch Reformed Church in 1789. Then Frederick appears in the Town of Halfmoon 1790 census. After the Revolution, they ended up in Otego, Otsego County, NY. Does anyone have any further information on Frederick MARTIN while he lived in Rensselaer County? - could be Center Brunswick and/or Grafton area. Thanks so much! 2. Hello list - This is a long shot, but wonder if anyone has come across this couple in the Albany/Troy area: Alexander HULING b 1830 married to Susan _______ b 1841in Albany County. They reside in Western New York from 1865 till 1873 - then disappear - I wonder if they could have returned to her birth area. I found no refernce to the name in the Albany or Renss co courthouses on my last trip to the area. 3. I did a search looking for my Flynn ancestors and this came back today. Don't believe it is mine. Parish of Upperchurch (Catholic), Co. Tipperary marriage, 2/25/1848 John Flynn and Elizabeth Ryan witnesses: John Flynn, Margaret Connolly child of above couple: baptized 12/16/1849 sponsors: Timothy Ryan, Anto? Flynn I sent for this because my Bridget Flynn (parents: John and Bridget) settled in Troy NY from Ireland. After doing a search of the records in Troy, I came up with some cemetery inscriptions. One was from Drombane for John and Elizabeth Flynn. It could be this couple since Drombane is in Upperchurch parish. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA GenExchange Rensselaer County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer Researching: Connors/O'Connor, McEntee, Campbell, Flynn/O'Flynn, Smith, Phillips, Carter, Boyle, O'Rourke, Healey, Cullinan, Hoare, Todd, Owen, Booth, Gallagher, Fahey, Ryan, Haviland http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~nymets http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/n/Pat-Connors/ mailto:nymets11@pacbell.net

    1. [NYRENSSE] GenExchange data
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Yesterday, I announced that I am proud to be the new coordinator of the Rensselaer County GenExhange site. I also stated that I uploaded 100 records from the Troy 1880 federal census. It is now up there for all to see. If you would like to see all the records entered, don't put any names in the search form, just do a search with a blank form. Then you will get all the records. Tonight I uploaded 128 naturalization records of my family surnames. I don't know when it will get on site but if like the census it will be there tomorrow. Gradually I am uploading all my Rensselaer data (directories, census, cemetery, baptisms, etc.). As I said yesterday, it makes sense to have all the data in a centralized place rather than surf from site to site. Today someone emailed that if I sent her pages of the 1880 census (she knew the pages of her family), in turn, she would transcribe the records and also upload them to the GenExchange site. She suggested that other might like to do that also. So here's the offer. If you know that page(s) your ancestors are on, I'll send two at a time if you transcribe them into a template (I'll supply it) and send it to me. Then I'll upload it and send you two more sheets if you want them. Or if you just want to help, that's okay also. Gradually we could get all of the 1880 Troy census on line. I also have the 1870 census and index. If you know your ancestors name and address, I can also send those if you promise to transcribe the sheet and send it to me. How's that for a deal? I must warn you it is not easy to transcribe, the writing is hard to read. Also, as you go through the Rensselaer GenExchange site, you will notice there are not many records in the data banks, so I plead with you to help the site out and when you have a few minutes, please enter some of your data in the appropriate category. I found it really easy today just to put in my surnames. Once I put in the first record, their cookie saved all my data and the next time all I had to put in was my surname. 1. [NYRENSSE] 1880 census going on line
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Today, I took over as the coordinator of the GenExchange Rensselaer site (see below for url). This is a good place to put your records to share with others. With that in mind, I have decided that instead of offering lookups for the 1880 census, I am starting to transcribe it and put it on line. I have it for all of Troy. Today, I uploaded 102 records which include names: O'Sullivan, Watson, Azier, Callahan, McGovern, Mead to mention a few. I will make announcement when I do more uploading. This site has forms to easily enter info such as baptism records, obits, naturalization records, marriages, censuses, etc. Please check it out. One thing I really love about this hobby is the way people unselfishly share their research. This is a good vehicle for the county because it is centralized. I was putting info on my site but now I will be using the GenExchange site. Let me know what you think about it and how it can be better. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, listowner GenExchange Rensselaer County Coordinator http://www.genexchange.org/county.cfm?state=ny&county=rensselaer Researching: Connors/O'Connor, McEntee, Campbell, Flynn/O'Flynn, Smith, Phillips, Carter, Boyle, O'Rourke, Healey, Cullinan, Hoare, Todd, Owen, Booth, Gallagher, Fahey, Ryan, Haviland http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~nymets http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/o/n/Pat-Connors/ mailto:nymets11@pacbell.net

There were so many HERRINGTON families in Renss Co. that I am finding it extremely difficult to sort them out. There may be others in this family who migrated to Onondaga Co. and I simply am missing the information. Many of these families migrated further westward and we have lost track of them completely. 3. The following is a write-up copied from my website. US Map Showing Distribution of 50,000 Surnames in 1850, 1880, 1920 and 1990 (Ed Hamrick) Select a year and type in a surname. A map will appear unless the spelling of the name was not part of the top 50,000 names for that year. Censuses were used for the first three dates, phone books for 1990. Below the map will be important information (first paragraph). Try the next year, and so on. Once you see how it works, choose All Years. The maps will display one after the other so that you will be able to get an impression of migration patterns, if any. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ It is the first choice in the Map section. 2. Hi, I recently located the date my great great grandparents got married. George Henry Pratt of Troy married Mary Evelyn Pratt of Lewis on Feb. 22, 1877. 3. Hello Listers, I am just checking to see if we had any new subscribers who might be of help since I last posted my family info. I am researching MYERS, KEENAN, ORR, RYAN, etc. surnames who lived in or around Troy. I found my ggrandparents' grave at St. Joseph's cemetary in Troy...they were Thomas Myers and Hannah (Johanna?) Ryan. They had several children, including my ggrandfather William J. Myers. William J. married Anna (Anne/Hannah?) Keenan. Some Keenans lived in Auburn, NY for a while, too. I have much more info., but just wanted to throw this out there for now. By the way Hannah Ryan Myers was born @ 1840, and I believe Thomas was older than her...by how much I am not sure. Hannah was a widow for a long while before she died. Thanks, Brooke Myers bmyers@du.edu
